my coupe tonight. My friend, who likes to
race BMW's, and I went on the run that he
used to take his M(e36) on. I had been on
part of it before, but that was before i had
my coupe.
This road was amazing. It had banked
turns and everything. Long tight hairpins,
that let you feel g forces (lateral
acceleration). And the pavement on the
road was a nice clean sticky black with
very bright reflectors to light the road. It
was driving in a dream. The car felt like it
was just floating on top of the road but at
the same time you could feal how solidly
connected the wheels(c7 conti's) were to
the pavement. The car felt suprisingly
agile in the turns too. Since it was at
11pm, there was nobody on the road so i
could sweep across the entire road, like it
was a closed track.
The best part about it was that it's about 6
miles from my house. So... where should i
continue the story...
Maybe you should just see for yourself.
So, who wants to go for a canyon run through the hidden roads of malibu?...
You also might try the ridge road that runs from Santa Cruz, parallel to the coastal highway. it comes out west of Mountainview, but watch out for the race bikes!!

we did the las virgenes and topanga canyon runs. in both cases, i was so suprised (i probably shouldn't have been) by how much the areas had been developed... and i don't remember all the speed limit signs! (did i ignore them before?) ah, still, it was great fun.
heheh, btw, i was feeling some brake fade...

PLEASE tell me you don' t mean you were using both lanes on blind turns. As someone who used to ride these type of roads quite a bit, and who's cardinal rule was NEVER cross the center line, I'm really hoping I read your post wrong... You NEVER know that there is "no one else on the road". And if some bozo in a car, in the wrong lane, would ever have taken out one of my friends...

I took a midnite drive around Topanga Cnyn. with some friends...it had to be the most fun i've ever had in my C. The area was so scary at nite, but having alot of friends in the car was assuring.
young, did you just drive through topanga canyon and las virgenes canyon from pch up to the 101 and back down, cause that's not the run. Its not even close. The run is in that area but i've been sworn to secrecy about the exact location. however, its cool to take other "drivers" on it who can really appreciate this hidden oasis.

if not, i'll have to call you next time i'm out there.
btw, did i mention that MB LagunaNiguel and fletcher jones in newport beach makes my dealership look dinky...
umm...thats what headlights are for. It was at 11 at night, those roads are deserted that late at night. Also you can spot oncoming traffic even on blind turns.
Yeah, right.
You're fooling yourself.
Great. So some nutcase thinks he can spot headlights when he's doing bonzai runs late at night. Driving so fast he needs both lanes of the road, yet he's got enough attention left over to spot my Karmann Ghia's 6volt headlights coming the other way, in time to safely change his line without screwing anything up.
Yeah, right.
You're fooling yourself.
one more thing, thanks for ruining the fun.

all i can say in my defense is that you're in michigan... you haven't seen this road. trust me if any of you saw it, you would understand. If you have lived in that area your entire life and knew how the community was at that hour you would understand.

No, I will NOT trust you. Again, YOU ARE FOOLING YOURSELF if you think you're aware of every other vehicle out there simply because it's night and everyone has their lights on.
Ruining your fun? You're quite welcome, if the only part that was fun was using both lanes. Want to talk about ruined fun? Try explaining to the nice police officer what you were doing in the wrong lane when you slammed into that girl in the Geo Metro with one light out. I'm sure her parents will understand too. As will yours.
Trust ME, the thrill you're feeling at using the entire road will evaporate in a heartbeat the moment something goes wrong. You're going to be so desperately searching for a "rewind" button you'll probably puke.
Bottom line, we all take risks out on the road. But please don't even try to tell me that using both lanes of a winding road isn't completely stupid. Hey, I've done stupid things to, don't get me wrong, but I try not to be so damn proud of them.
Stay in your own damn lane, it's that simple. And really not all that hard to do...
P.S. Sorry to rant, but I've seen one too many cars bearing down on me in the wrong lane. Ride a bike for a few years, then get back to me on the subject...
Short bursts of fun driving on public roads can be a lot of fun, but if you think you really have it, try it on a track.
Stay safe,
Smoky

mmm, there are no such roads in Atlanta. Or is there?
