help

I do want to buy a secondhand c 220 cdi 2002 mod. My problem is that the gearbox is a "steptronic" or sequentronic,... not tiptronic gearbox. I have been warned that this type of gearbox is prone to troubles and that I must not buy this car.
It there anybody who knows this for sure and if there are any cure?????https://mbworld.org/forums/newthread...newthread&f=3#

Where are you from?

The sequentronic is a bit slow, if you find a manual car is the best you can have with the c220cdi engine

I have a c220cdi with manual gear box, and when I was thinking buying the car I also put in consideration the sequentronic, but after doing a test drive... no, I certanly will not buy the sequentronic version, its not an auto or even a manual, its a bit strange and slow when we give it some gas :p

steptronic

hello
I`m from Norway. At the moment I`m taking a look at a c 220 cdi. Normally I do drive a 230 slk, but I must have a workhorse.
Ouer troubles here is the rather high prices on cars. In US dollars, we have to pay 40 000 for an old 2002 mod.

Thats the reason wy I want a car with an ok gearbox, because workshop prices are just the same.

Here in Portugal the prices are high too, thats why I went to germany to buy my car, I saved 20000€ buying my car with 6 months old (60000€ new one).

If you can, buy a manual version, its a lot better and quick
Or an auto version for confort :p

sequentronic

hello
bought that car. Have tested it for 850km yesterday. At first it semed to be a bit slow during gearshift. After a while I got used to this gearbox and it`s behave. On "A" it is sometimes slow and during kickdown, it seems to stop up a bit. When I learned to meet this with the accelator, it worked nice.
In manual mode, I`m able to gear faster than with a manual box (or same). The only problem so far. is when I brake down before a sharp turn, you will fell that the gearbox is working while you are braking. I must then use the gears in a manual down gearing to prevent this.
Acce. on low gear on A mode, is a bit bumpy. In manual, it works ok.
This gearbox, to put it simple, is just something between manual and automatic gears.
