Any particular reason you went went with Renntech ECU Peformance Chip over evosport Powerchip? More hp/torque/reliabilty/warrantee/price/availiablity?

Also was there a gain after changing to the AMG exhaust. ( i believe i read somewhere in the forums you had a difficult time getting it ) With the resognator removed any gains. How much louder/ricey sound?

I didn't do my homework on RENNtech vs PowerChip.
RENNtech is an ECU software upgrade, not a physical chip.
I think many people call both upgrades the same thing. I don't know.

But I've heard good things about PowerChip from those who have had it done.
As far as price, I do think that RENNtech is a little over-priced.
Warranty, I believe is the same for both. For instance, RENNtech says that if my ECU ever gets reflashed back to stock for whatever reason by dealer or whoever, that they would flash my ECU again free of charge, because they keep your software profile in their records. I would think PowerChip does the same thing ?
At the Dyno Meet back in April (Huntington Beach) there were people who paid $300 for a "RENNtech" ECU upgrade via a internet (possibly eBay) deal, and the DYNO showed absolutely NO gain whatsoever ! Then there was a CL65 with a $3,000 RENNtech ECU upgrade, and his didn't show anything either. Go figure: !!
My showed a 10-13 HP gain with 12 lb/ft gain in Torque.

Slight gain only in positive back-flow. I have to take it in to House of Power to get another DYNO, also possibly adding an AMG air box next month, if we can get it to fit. Resonator removal doesn't really give you noticeable gain, but does deepen the sound. I really like the sound now, without resonator. It makes the engine noise much throatier. Ricey is relative, but definitely not something you want on a Mercedes-Benz.
If my exhaust sounded anything like some of these Mira Mesa Hondas do at 10 mph, then I would definitely chop it off and go back to stock. At above 3500 rpm, when you're really picking up speed, is when it sounds best !
Being in San Diego, we should coordinate to meet up one of these days.

Yeah def... I am very interested in meeting up with you soon, as you already have the mods that i am considering. Would like to check them out, esp the tone of your exhaust.

I work in the UTC area, live in Eastlake.

Also, not sure if you do any racing. BUT it would be interesting to do a quick straight run for fun (not too sure where) A stock 03 c320sc against a your mods 03 c320sc are you auto or stick?

I have yet to hit MBwerx, but i will def pick up the K&N's as thats the cheapest i've seen yet.

I know powerchip has a guaranty that they will return the car to stock and refund your money If you are unhappy with the results. I would imagine RennTech is the same.

Yes, there is an air box on both sides of the engine. On the v6 3.2 liter (320) engine.

it's a little bit cheaper. But you have to buy 2 for the V6.
I've seen K&N filters from anywhere between $39-$45 each.
There was a forum member who sold a pair last year on the classifieds for $55.

Since we are on the Air Filter topic........ There was a forum discussion a while back re: removing the plastic baffles in the air box. I do not believe a conclusion was ever posted on how the outcome was.

Does this make any difference positive/negative? This shouldn't void any warantee either (i would assume). Also what are the baffles for?

If any positive comes of this, i would like to dremmel those baffles when i do the air filters.

i think Carlsbadkmprssr actually did it,
and ctC230K and mig888 and Yound Doc were going to do it !

it was on the Why did MB use a cloth intake pipe (C230K)? thread.
It got hijacked and went for a little while with all the aux cable interference stuff, but I think it got back on track.

I'm thinking of just trying out fitment of an AMG air box first on my C320. If no issues, that will be cool. If it just won't fit, then either Dremmel the heck out of it until it fits, or do the baffle grind on my original air box.
A RENNtech air box was way too pricy, something like $1,000+

Yeah, I'm with you. F any marginal gain from airflow, how does it sound?? Before I start chopping up my car, I want to know how it sounds...I would imagine a deeper, throatier
sound, if anything at all, but who knows. Of course someone has to be brave enough to do it in the first place, but since some have decided to be trailblazers, let's hear!

do you keep your stock parts?

If not I am thinking that maybe when you do the AMG airbox, i will buy your air box lids from you, and then i can dremmel them down. I'd hate to try file them and have the car sound like @ss, then have to order or find new lids.

I have an attic full of stock parts. I can almost build another Coupe with all the junk up there. The only thing I've sold were my stock 16" twin 5-spoke wheels to some guy in New Jersey who used them as winter wheels.

Yeah, I'm ok with that. The whole air box issue right now is maybe. It all depends on the person whom I'm getting the AMG air box from. He's supposed to get a carbon fiber set up first, then he will sell his AMG box, and then I can sell mine. Kinda like a dominoe effect.

LOL! Saprissa you have way too much time on your hands lol! I was going to dremmel the baffles out of the top of my airbox but I still haven't heard from the guys that did it! I wanted to know if it makes the engine sound different or if it makes it any faster!?

just curious, i wonder if anyone of you drivin the car w/ the filter, but w/o the airbox... i think it would sound badass!! hahaha... i just ordered my k&n filter, might try that and see how it sounds...(just for like a short trip, i think w/o the airbox/ airbox open, dust might be flow in to the tube?)

If you mean with lid off I dont think dust is the issue, probably hot air though. Also if im not mistaken the lid is what secures the filter in place; maybe it could become unseated? Probably would sound pretty mean though!

Its not much different. More Supercharger sound. The SC blocks the deep growl a twin cam engine makes when you floor it. If you ever driven a NA car, with a CAI, I suspect that's the sound youre looking for.
