Problems with '05 H/K System Resurface After Amp "upgrade"/"update"

So I was having the usual problems with my '05 with the H/K system. You may notice that I regularly posted on all the audio complaint posts. Well, I thought that the amp "update"/"upgrade" actually was a fix. My system was working perfectly for a few months, no problems, no distortion. Yesterday, the system was on, but no sound, and it wouldn't recognize the CDC. I took it to the dealer (who couldn't work on it b/c they were almost closed) and they told me something is wrong with something in my "ring"...

Great, another problem--oh well, I have 500 miles or so until service A, and they can take care of this then.

P.S. Jim or anyone else with the stock system, I really don't want to hear "this is why I didn't get the entertainment package" b/c I still think that it sounds better than the stock system even with its problems.

This is a pretty common problem, sometimes the D2B ring would have a run time error. So far the only way i got through this is turn ignition off for 5 min or so then start it back up.

Didn't think it would happen to me, but yesterday my radio stopped working and my CD changer wasn't be recognized. Should I push for the dealer to do a firmware upgrade. I certainly don't want to lose bass quality. Is changing the fuse a temporary fix? Advanced thanks for everyones input. I've read some other threads and other members waited a few days before it worked.

Exclamation HK Issue

I had the same issue (no CDC or sound) at 362 miles when it first happened. Rasmussen MB (first class service) service did the following:

Replaced connector cable from CD player due to static from CD changer

I had intermittent static and had the no CDC issue as well. The new cable replacement did fix the CDC issue and stereo not powering on.

I endured crap sound that would produce static at times. When the center speaker started to make a rattle I finally took it in again at 6,700 miles. They replaced the amp and resecured the center speaker. I also requested something be done about the rattle around the trunk release button. That
was improved, but it still makes some noise on occasion.

Since then, no buggy behavior by the HK system, just an occasional rattle from the trunk release. V. unacceptable to have to deal with this crap from the Entertainment Package.

All these cars are connected with fiber optics. Each device has a in and out. Making a complete "ring" If one devices does not have power, then the entire ring goes down. This can be due to a kinked fiber cable, bad wake up wire, bad ground or bad power or bad unit itself. This is a very common problem. Shutting the power down on the headunit for 10 seconds and powering it back up can solve it sometimes.

Sunman, thanks for the input. I have already powered the headunit down for a few minutes, but with no luck. Like the last time, it worked after a day or so. I'm crossing my fingers. I thought about disconnecting the battery (negative) as others have mentioned, but other threads have listhed problems by that temporary solution.

This is a problem that can be diagnosed with dealer diagnostic. They can force the modules to respond one at a time till they find which link in the optical chain is the one that is not responding.

Saves a huge amount of time.

All it takes is one module to ruin the party ! If for some reason that faulty module resets itself and comes back online then usually it will reboot the head unit and make it work again.
