HELP...with electrical question on a seat install
I was installing a new set of recaro seats and i ran into a problem...
underneath the passenger side seat there is a box with 3 electrical connections to the car. there's a white one and 2 yellow ones. upon removing them i realized that the SRS error indicator goes off and the airbags shut off. so i then figured out that the white one had nothing to do with it...but the 2 yellows did. one of the yellows was the belt buckle sensor...i was able to totally remove it so that it can be used with the new seat.
however, when i followed the second yellow connection, it led me inside of the cushion of the stock seat...is this something i have to pull out of there? or is there another way around it? because i wouldn't want the SRS error message permantently there, and would definitely want the airbags to work properly.
any advice??? the instructions from recaro have no mention whatsoever of this...by the way, my seats are manual

The seats have a sensor to determine if your butt is in them. You might have to find a way to permanently wire that sensor so it thinks someone is in the recaro seats. The downside is in an accident your passenger airbag will deploy regardless if someone is sitting there.

Built yourself a 1-1 test/ measurement harness that will connect the respective connectors. Remove the seat and hook up your test/measurement harness. Now have someone sit in it while you turn on the car. Take measurements with and without. Now you can go and figure out how to circumvent/maintain the feature.

I believe you can circumvent the feature by shutting off the WSS in the seat using Star Diagnosis.

yeah...thats a good idea...but i dont know a shop that has the star diagnostics that would do that for me...i doubt the dealership would...

If you want it to work properly.....See how the sensor is installed in the MB seat and try to duplicate the installation in the Recaro. It's just a weight sensitive switch.

its actually a weight sensitive strip that is embedded throughout the inside of the seat's cushion...i'd have to rip apart the stock seat to use the existing sensor.
i think the best option is to find someone with star diag that can shut it off...or to trick that circuit into thinking its ok (with resistors or something)...i heard that using a 3 ohm, 1 watt resistor can do this...we'll see

No, I don't think that Joe ever figured it out, and he's either sold or is selling his car currently.
I did talk to the sales rep who sold me my Recaro for my driver's side, and he said that Recaro sells a resistor for it, which would then fix the problem, so that the airbag's already armed (which is pretty fitting). I haven't yet decided if it's worth another grand to the passenger's side, though.
