maybe is a ploy by the dealer to get you in for your 1000-3000 mile check up? 
im guessing you bought the car off the lot. i remeber seeing some where you do a service A for 13k miles or 12 months ( i think it was 12 months) but if you bought the car off the lot i realy hope it was not sitting there for 12 months.

my car nearly sat on the lot for a little over 9 months before I bought it.
They had me bring it back after 3 months for a FREE oil change & inspection.
This was a 2003 model, before the 1k-3k check up thing they're pushing now.
Had my Service A at 12,500 miles, then a paid mid-way oil change at 18,000 miles,
and Service B is coming up in another 1,100 miles when I reach 25,000.

I ordered my car and when I picked it up, I was told to bring it in b/w 1000-3000 miles for a complimentary oil change. I'm going to ask for an alignment and some other things.
Anyone know anything more about what I think was a cylinder head problem with the symptom of a carbon buildup at the tip of the exhaust?

you can go over it for an infinate number of days but when the car is stuck on the side of the road in a ditch because the oil is solidified you will know you probably should have gotten that service done a few days ago...
definatly get that alignment. they don't change the oil at that first service appointment though, just check over the car.
I thought that was fixed on the more recent models...
