Shark Fin

How long before MB decides to slap the gawdy satellite radio sharkfin (or does it look more like an airplane tailfin) antenna on the tops of their cars, a la Audi and BMW? 07 models? I suppose it's better than a black box marring the trunk lid, but these fin receivers are damn ugly in their own right. I'm not a huge fan of the stubby middle antenna either, I prefer it built into the rear windshield, but it's better than a big turd sitting on top!

Anyone like these things? Isn't there a more discreet place to put them? I want my car to look sleek, not like the underside of a surfboard.

Aren't they added to surfboards to make them sleeker when they cut through the water? So, actually, they ADD to the sleekness of the cars.

As you said, I think they're much better than the alternative. I'd take a little shark fin over not being able to listen to Howard uncensored.

I'm sure that whatever antenna I have to add when I go Alpine h/u w/Sirius before January will look even worse.

The best solution is to have a plastic (SMC) decklid like the CLK cab and CL and Maybach. Then you can put it underneath and no one is the wiser!

They did a good job with the new ML, since they designed a plastic cover over the rear section of the roof with all of the antennas under it - smooth and clean!

By the way, it sounds like the new S class is going to have the same small antenna on top of the decklid.......we'll just have to wait and see.

Good, because that ugly-*** fin instantly belittles any car unfortunate to be donning it. Not an issue at the moment as I plan on keeping my c230 at least a couple of years before handing it off to my fiance, well by then I guess she'll be my wife, so I'm just praying these little abominations don't become ubiquitous.

All they are, is a piece of plastic over the regular satellite antenna. You can buy a cheap one off of Ebay and make one yourself.

Why would I make one when I despise them? Color needs to match, but who cares, I would never want one near my car, unless I suddenly plan on attaching wings and a propeller. Windshield antennaes or more discreet placement is what I would like to see MB do in the future...but let all the others makers continue to mar their cars with these atrocities.

The new Sirius satelite antenna that MB offers now is alot better looking and is color-coded to your car. I feel that it also has better reception! To change out the antenna took a whole 10 minutes. You also have to buy an antenna splitter from MB. I think it was around $50 for the antenna and $25 for the splitter.

Thats true. I took my orginal antenne off and painted it the same color as my car and reinstalled it on the roof.

How about the rear deck, as close to the trunk as possible?

That WOULD make the most sense wouldn't it? And I HAVE seen it in some cars. Maybe some people like the fin, makes their cars meaner, lol, who knows

I still like the 02 setup better, no antenna or anything, just all on the rear windshieild.

Agreed. They seem to offer better reception as well.
