Hey guys. It's been nice. I have drifted off the C-Class deal, because of the price/interest/worth aspect. So, the chances of me getting a C-Class are low now. I'm highly condsidering the Porsche 944 Turbo, 87'-89'. I've always loved the 944 style and the overall car. Never really considered it. Since the price will be almost as much as a C-Class, and being that it's a better car performance wise brought me to considering one. And let's not forget, it's a Porsche. BMW, MBZ, and Porsche Euro cars and the American Muscle cars have always been in my interest to own. And since a muscle car wouldn't be practical, it led me to these Euros.
I'm working on getting the body re-done in black, and modding it along with Porsche rims, maybe off the new 911, and restoring it 100%. I'll still be looking on here and posting cause you guys are great.
A friend finally got her long loved 944 and it ended up being a total piece of crap. Nothing but problem after problem with expensive parts. Its got to be one of the worst ever Porsche models... Sorry for the harsh opinion and best of luck to ya. I am not saying go C-class, its not the best car ever but geez, 944... Ugh.
^^^ My brother had worse problems with an older 944. He almost abandoned it in a parking lot. It stranded him several times and repair costs were nearly what he paid for the car.
Based on his experiences alone I would not buy a 944.
I have an 86 944 turbo and its awesome. I bought it for 4k last year and fixed it up and its great. Sure little things break, but the car is approaching 20 years old. THe turbo ones are better than the NA's build quality wise. I can rip clk 500 on the highway with this car. The 60-100 time is just great. Its a totally different ride than the clk's but i love it. It might not be as stylish, i mean girls arent as crazy about it with its black fuchs rims, but i love the dam thing.

Hey Ant! Where are some pics of your 944? We need to get together some time!
hahaha, mines a turbo, it will blow the 924 away. Hey nuk how areyou? I do want to meet up with everyone soon, tommy was telling me about a possible meet in the near future. I need to transfer some pics over to the laptop, i have no photos of my cars on this computer right now.
Wasn't the 944 built on license by VW; I mean AUDI?
The 944 started in life as Porsche Design project 924. It was commisioned by VW to replace the Karmann Ghia, but the economy of that time caused VW to abandon the thought of production. Porsche bought the design back so they could have an entry level car to replace the air cooled 914. Polution laws were were the reason Porsche was switching to the wasser werks. Porsche did not have an engine so they obtained one designed by Mitsubushi with counter rotating balance shafts. The idea was actually German from a guy named Felix Wankel (who designed the rotary engine in Mazda's.) The engine design wound up in the hands of American Motors, who was the maker of Rambler's. AMC wanted a smooth four to replace the aging tiny six cylinder motors in their cars. The economy went bad for AMC too, so they were pleased to have Porsche license the design. Porsche had no facility to manufacture the engine, so that job did fall to Audi. Since production numbers were so high for the 924/944/968 I believe they were assembled at Audi plant 29 where the 914 was cobbled. Since Porsche wanted to sell to 914 buyers they had to do something with the front/rear balance. They moved the transmission to the rear with a long shaft inside four bearings from the engine in the front. Gave a 52/48% weight ratio, which made the car very fun to drive. Not happy with the looks or performance (or sales) of the 924, they did a make over to tone down the VW elements, and put some Porsche punch into the ride. The result was the 944. A very fast car, with much better road manners than the 911.
If I had one, I might keep it, but I would not look to buy one because of the age of the cars, and the price of parts.
I hope you don't give up your Mercedes project, it looks like a lot of fun is to be had.
Thanks everybody for the positives and negatives. Lmao on the "924 vs 944 war going to erupt". And any problem that I face will have it's own problem. ME :v LoL. I'll be back. Later guys.
