E320 vs C320

I was bored, and went to MSN Autos, they claim the 2004 E320 has 221 hp and 232 torque vs the C320 having 215 hp and 221 lbs torque.

I looked at the SLK, ML, CLK, and they all have the 215/221 what is different on the E class engine? Besides price....

good question !
is the E-320 engine beefier, because the car is heavier ?
if so, then what makes / gives the E-320 the extra hp/tq ??

I know that in 2003, the C320 Coupé was listed as 218 hp.
I checked with MB UK and MB Germany, and they also listed 218 hp.
I have some of the German brochures for the Sport Coupé that shows 218 hp.
When I asked my dealer to check with MBUSA about my Coupé using my VIN # he confirmed it was 218 hp.

By the end of 2003 into the 2004 model year, the C320 was listed as 215 hp

Maybe the longer exhausts
In Audi, the A6 3.0TDI has 225Hp, but exactly the same engine in the A8 3.0TDI and 233Hp, they say its the longer exhausts

Correct - It's the exhaust system in the E vs the others. More room under the hood.

hmmm,
maybe something can be done about that...
polished / ceramic coated headers a la SuperSprint, Evosport, or
even AMG headers !?!?!

I'm not sure about that. My E320 is rated at 215bhp...the difference between mine and the 04 model is that mine is a free flow air induction system and crosspoint fuel delivery....while the 04 changed to some sort of "Integrated sequential multipoint fuel injection and phased twin-spark ignition includes individual cylinder control of fuel spray, spark timing and phase, and antiknock. Electronic throttle. Two high-energy ignition coils and two spark plugs per cylinder, with 100,000-mile spark plug intervals." and "Magnesium composite 2-stage resonance intake manifold increases intake runner length at lower rpm for improved response."(from the tech specs)

Carlos, you should see Mr. Mashimaro1985's posts. If Rick makes you flip the bird, Mr. Mashimaro1985 would probably make you smack his tiny little cartoon dog head

The exhaust plays a role, and so does software tuning... all of these engines can be de-tuned or tuned-up based on need.. Audi's V6 and VW's V6 are 20 hp apart, their 4-cyl turbo is 20 hp apart... all tuning.

I got 10% more power on my CDI with tuning..

little electrons and 1's and 0's inside the car, can make a bid difference what your engine gives you.

Jeeez....ok here's the low down in layman's terms
My E320 make 215 hp with crosspoint fuel injection and a ported manifold

In 04 models, they changed that to a sequential (timed) multi-point (2 jets per cyl?) injector that has a composite web in the intake manifold to increase manifold air/fuel pressure under load, plus better computer control over the ignition coils and spark.

This new design apparently accounts for a few more ponies when you
" kick it wit da homies, yo... "

(I'm sorry I copy/pasted from tech specs on the 04 setup - I didn't think it was that hard to decipher)
