C280 & C350 SHOULD BE WINNERS !!!
I own an E350 and have driven it enough to say that this new 350 engine and 7G transmission make for a winning combination. I previously had a 2004 E500 with 302 hp and it had great performence but it was really overkill for today's driving. It was a great performer but when the E350 appeared I drove one and was hooked.
The 350 engine combined with the 7G is an ideal combination. You get instant engine response off the mark with strong, linear acceleration up through the seamless feeling gear changes. You especially notice the great performance when passing at highway speeds. The car seems to fly.
Having owned a C320, I can just imagine how the C350 will feel. It will be great. At the same time, the C280 should be another winner. I have driven a number of C240 loaners and always felt they were underpowered. The C280 also will bring a lot of smiles. If MB keeps the C280 price the same as the C240 this car could be a "best buy." For once, a Mercedes 280 engine will really mean something.

I agree with you. Not only is the engine a jewel, but the real winning ingredient is the 7 speed trans. What a nice unit - after driving a car with it and getting back into a 5 speed it feels so raw and unrefined.
People really complain about Benz, but still when it comes to the hard parts like transmissions, they really do a great job. Just good old fashinoed german engineering. Which should never go out of style.

Engine wise, I would agree with you
It isn't too often that Mercedes engine run ahead in terms of refinement and power especially on the C350. It has already won hearts in the SLK350 with not only great response, power, and torque it actually sounds good working hard which is rarity in Mercedes. The only engine that is more powerful overall now is the G35 that lacks the refinement and high rpm excitement of the C350 engine.
I just hope the rest of the car will be update in the same standard which I doubt and in that department will lag far behind the current 3 series and recently upgraded A4. The best combination would be either 330i or C350 engine with BMW suspension and Audi fit/finish and interior with the exhaust note of a SLK350. Oh well.
