W203 - King of the road???
Had a pretty strange experience this morning when I was driving to work. It's a ~15 miles trip, where 10 of these miles are on a double laned highway. This road is pretty heavy trafficed and normally there is always a traffic jam (or very slow moving traffic)during the morning hours. This morning the traffic was moderate though (slow moving traffic). Well, anyway - I was a little late and immediately moved out in the left lane, wich strangely enough was empty for some 500 yards or so, and accelerated up to ~85 mph. An Audi A4 was following me. The funny thing is I could maintain this speed all the way to work! Everybody moved out of my way before I even had to slow down! Looked in my rear view mirror and saw that they guy in the A4 got cut off by three cars, before he disappeared. I truly felt like I was the King of the road. No one (except a R129 500) cut me off (he soon moved out of the way though ) .
I've never experienced such a thing before. Do you guys and gals get treated as Kings/Queens of the road in your C's as well??

If you have your headlights on the nature of the beam, 1/4 moons that point upward, can catch unsuspecting motorist mirrors and they will move over if your coming at a higher speed. Even mid-day the low beams are a enough to move most drivers paying attention. If not the high beams or flash-to-pass have not failed to move even the most indepth cell phone conversation. :P

That happens to me a good portion of the time. However, there are always a group of pain in the a$$ SUV drivers that putt in the left lane at some point during my journey and do not move.
Funny thing is that I had an E320 loaner for a week and I was getting nasty looks and people cutting me off constantly!

Unfortunately, no such luck here in AZ. Some do move over...but for the most part, drivers do not move to the right to let you pass. Doesn't seem to matter what you drive...I had a Chevy Tahoe before my C240 and people still did not move. Had a guy in an Explorer point to me to pass him on the right...rather than him move over. And there are alot of times where I get passed like I am standing still..when I am going 75-80mph (I am keeping up with traffic at that speed).

Gee, 6 months ago everyone here said the opposite, that everyone is so jealous of our C class cars that they cut us off all the time, etc.
Reality check: Other driver's don't act any differently towards us because we are driving a $30,000 C class. This may be hard to believe, but they neither bow down and move over out of awe and deference, nor block us out of uncontrolled envy and jealousy.

I think if I still lived in New England this would be the case, but in New Jersey it seems every other car is a MB or BMW or Audi. Also since most NJ drivers are (more than most states...) pretty rude anyway, no one gets any respect.
I have a ~33 mile commute each way and no one ever moves out of your way unless you have take-down lights

Hmmm.....rude people in Hope, NJ? Hard to believe that! I used to carry a sign - black block letters on yellow card stock - that said "HANG UP & DRIVE"....is that rude?
I'll wave as I cruise by on my way up to the trail this weekend!

I like the idea of putting a little "message" on the back sunscreen that I can pop up when I am in front of someone that is rude! But I think this would get me into too much trouble!

I can tell you at least here in Houston - all the slow drivers camp out in the left lane - usually in some form of pickup or SUV.......all costing nearly as much as an nice German car........I guess ignorance is bliss for them!

Oh, don't get me started...
Some of our local cow-boys/girls surely like to hug the left lane. They usually drive a pick-up, SUV or van. Most of the time they ignore my low-beams, high-beams, fog-lights, flashing of all of the above.
Last winter when I was coming back from skiing and it was fairly dark already, we had a dude in a Subaru of some sort cruising in the left lane, he would speed up, slow down, just to make sure I can't pass him on either side. Finally I got tired of this crap and turned the high-beams on into his ***. You should have seen how quickly he changed lanes to the right and all the hand-gestures I got.
On Saturday (on my way to Banff) I had a pleasure driving behind a mom in a van in the left lane, on a divided highway, below speed limit, with a bunch of kids, burried in some maps. Way to go.
Ocassionally I have a pair of semi's blocking both lanes. Sweet.

Okay, I gotta chip in my two cents. I commute about an hour each way to work with relatively light traffic traveling from Decatur to Bloomington. Here in rural farmland Illinois, I *constantly* encounter these jackass drivers that want to fly up to your quarter panel in the passing lane, ( I drive pretty slow, about 70 MPH ) but then they get beside you and drop back, then speed up, then drop back, then speed up, then drop back...........kinda like a booger stuck there or something.....jeez, you can't tell me that these cars don't have that modern marvel known as CRUISE CONTROL??? I just want them to pass and get it over with!
Or how about the ones that are driving really slow, then when you move out into the passing lane and try to get past them, they speed up so that you can't? Oh yeah baby, I LOVE that!

Actually it is the complete opposite down here in Florida, if you're driving a Mercedes or BMW, people will purposely cut you off, tail you, etc. just because of what you drive.
