Traded My C230 Coupe
Well, the time finally came to get rid of this car. From what I've gathered the car is not really that bad i feel though that mine being one of the earlier ones produced was very problematic. Problems from the car quitting on the highway to electrical problems. I traded it in on a new S2000. Before i get burned about buying a Honda, I have nothing against Mercedes. We have several in my household and I will purchase probably another Mercedes down the road. The only thing was that this C-Coupe was just a nightmare, rattles everywhere, Panorama roof jamming and leaking and the list goes on and on. I will still visit this forum and help anyone that might have any problems similar to mine.

Good luck and great choice.
You don't have to apologize for getting rid of a lemon. I love my C230, (of course I loved my Prelude, too) but if I had an experience as bad as yours sounds, I would probably stay away from that brand for good.
That being said, we would love to see you happy in an M-B again.

Pweb,
the S2000 was $30,500 out the door including taxes. The window sticker was $33,874.00. They had a I think it was July the 4th sale weekend. They were willing to give me what i owed on my car so yeah they covered (ate) all the negative equity. And is this car ever sweet. Power comes on like you were on a Ninja bike however as all VTEC drivers at a high RPM but the sound at 6,500-8,000 rpm is AWESOME, gear ratios are perfect, car handles wonderfully however the interior could use lots of MB goodies and fit and finish. I miss the fit and finish of my C230. The S2000 is red leather interior with highly bolstered sides and very very race car like you hear ever mechanical sound to make this thing move you feel all the bumps and tire to road impact noise however, but hey it's a roadster that looks awesome IMHO with performance surpasing many of the likes out there and at half the cost with high reliability. However I miss my Benz and will probably wait till the AMG version if any for the C-Coupe will be produced and hopefully take one of those into consideration.

I think the A4 and S2000 makes a fine garage - one car for carrying people and one for fun.
My friend has an S2000 - it's a blast to drive - especially on curvy roads. First time he let me drive it he said, "Go crazy. It handles so well it's nearly impossible to lose control and crash."
An added benefit - you'll get crazy looks of jealousy from ricers. It's their dream car.
Cheers, BT

yeah the A4 is sweet to drive especially in the rain. No tire slippage nor worries car tracks beautifully and the fit and finish and interior quality are very high. Yeah the S2000 handles out of this world it feels like a go-kart on steroids and you feel at one with the car at all times. The only prob so far was learning how to start it for my sales person disappeared when the finance manager handed me the keys and finally after 15 minutes i figured it out of having to turn the key to ACC position then pressing the clutch and pushing the Start Engine button. Nice but annoying to perform those steps simultaneously in a quick manner if the car stalls in city traffic. I'll get used to it though. I just went back to the dealer today to pick up my spare keys and they have my C230 in the used car showroom already-looks real nice.

i am glad your finally leaving BlackC230 your user name was to close to mine. LOL i am just joking. come back and tell us about the s2000. I was considering an s2000 or maybe a corvette as my next car. both good performance at a not so rediculous price. but i would miss having a mercedes.

A4 3.0 quattro is a very nice car. saw the motorweek when they tested the A4 3.0 quattro. the exaust note is amazing on the A4 3.0. S2000 is quick and nimble. the exterior looks pretty good as well, but minus point for the really bad fit and finish.
have fun with your new ride and come back soon when you are done driving around non stop.

I think the S2000 is more closely related to the SLK, rather than the C-Coupe.
When you decided on an S2000, did you take an SLK230/320 into consideration?

Enjoy the car - I'm hoping they'll be around to possibly get one in 4-5 years, as my midlife crisis car.

Accord,
yeah i considered a new SLK320 of which Mercedes was trying to assist me in getting out of my car. However on Thursday of last week i got a call from the Mercedes rep. telling me that i was not going to get assistance however the dealer was selling me the car for invoice regardless of Mercedes' assistance. But I was PO'd by Mercedes after the professional and nice manner that i took it by not going through the lemon law and just wanting to get assisted out of my car and also all the serious prob's with my car and they just ignored me. After the decision was made i then told the Merc. Rep. that he was full of it........ and went to Honda and at Honda they gave me the full pay off of my car as trade in and a great deal on the new S2000 so i did much better. The Mercedes as much as i like the SLK we have the first year of it in 230 guise, will never handle as good as my S2000. However the fit and finish and quality of the Merc. is top-notch when compared to Hondas' top end rice burner . But IMHO I feel that the SLK is more of a relaxed "REFINED" sports car and the S2000 is a full fledged pocket rocket with exotic looks that far surpass Merc's styling. And also the engine although not silky smooth on the low end as Mercedes it loves to rev to it's 8,900 redline with ease, though it could use more low end torque (i.e under 4,000rpm and more refinment at the low end as well) otherwise great 2.0 with lots of power. The steering is dead accurate wherever you steer the car rockets towards that point with no drama even at high speeds, however the tail does tend to break loose a bit at speeds above 70mph if going through the gears but somehow manages to quickly correct itself and stay well planted in its intended course. Our SLK however has great low end power that I love that the S2000 lacks and the steering it's real taught and aggressive whereas the Honda's electronic steering feels like that of a Lincoln Town car, the steering on the Honda is very quick you have to be careful changing lanes at high speeds. Bottom line i love both the Benz and S2000 in their own unique ways.
However I still enjoy the Mercedes Benz alot however if one of you ever get a chance take an S2000 at least for a test drive, really drive it good and you will fall in love with it. I just love the ability to be able to rev past 7,000 rpm and the loud barking sound of the exhaust past 6,500 rpm.

It's interesting that the loud S 2000 noise and lack of low-end torque don't put you off after being in the highly refined C 230 K for a while. But, hey, a lemon is a lemon, maybe you got zero pleasure from the C.
I could not handle a car that has no d*ck below 4000 rpm, day in and day out. If I was racing it, yes, but it seems like a formula for stressful driving on most roads, in traffic, or on the highway. Maybe if I was 20, but not now.
Cheers

Mike,
yeah below4,000 it still has lots of pep but could use more. However my C was refined but honestly the engine note sucked. The honda also doesn't sound amusing under 4,000 rpm sounds like a regular civic however once everything gets cooked up and past 6,500 rpm then it feels and sounds like a formula 1 race car. The sound just makes you want to floor the car every chance you get.

Fully understandable, they never should have given you any trouble about that.

But yeah, that high-pitched idle on my C230K leaves something to be desired. Engine sounds great from the inside, but hissy from the outside. I'm considering putting a new muffler on to try to offset the engine sound.

I got the remus exhaust for my car and it did help make it sound alot more aggresive at both idle and driving and of course when i floor it it sounds great. but i still do notice that the weird noise is comming from the engine so the exhaust will not help to make it go away completly. I also went under the car near the muffler and bent some of the metal so it would not rattle but it did not make a difference.
