It closes the sroof on the sedan - I would think its the same for the Hatchback - it would not be much of a "tunnel mode" if the sunroof stayed open!

Tunnel mode does not close the roof on the coupe because the roof on the coupe doesn't have one touch closing.

*sigh* yeah, of all things to not have a one-touch close, the thing that takes the longest

it's that function of the recirc button on the climate control, so if its off and your windows are down, you hold it for 2 sec and can let go and they all go up. and they'll go back to their previous position if you turn off the recirc by holding for 2 sec. it's in the owners manual under recirculating but i dont think they call it tunnel mode. hope that helps.

Its called tunnel mode because its designed for use in going through long tunnels, where the air quality can be very bad.

The idea is you push one button, and the car seals itself up as best as possible (close all windows, sunroof, go into recirc mode so as to not bring in outside air, etc.)

That's why I said if the roof does not close, its not really a "tunnel mode" feature - having a giant sunroof open defeats the purpose.

i was just reading the new 2003 coupe's interior features description at mbusa and it says,

"Tunnel mode offers one-touch closing of all windows (and sunroof, if equipped) via climate-control air recirculation button."

so either the paragraph is wrong, or the 2003's have one touch close...

I think the implication is that sunroof needs to have one-touch close equipped, not that one-touch close is on the MY03 coupes. If so, I'd consider a one-touch close retrofit for my MY02 coupe.

There is a sunglass case on the glovebox door that I didn't notice for a few months.
