I paid $500 over invoice on an ordered car that I bought in March in Florida. Deposits are not binding, so try to re-negotiate - they should want to sell the car and get it off the lot. Good luck!

Eventhough I put a deposit on the car and signed the purchase agreement? What if they just say we're keeping your deposit? Which it clearly states on the back of the purchase agreemnet that the deposit is non-refundable.
If it says non-refundable, that's tough. Did they clearly verbally say that when you left the deposit? You can always dispute with your credit card company if you walk and they keep your $500

Yes, the deal is not done until you take delivery. As long as the front wheels are still on dealership property, you are not stuck with the car.

They may yell and scream and *****, but legally it ain't done until you drive away. They might really give you hell, but the law is on your side. Stay calm, cool and remember that you can always walk. If they really give it to you bad, go ahead and say, "I'll be back tomorrow to discuss it." And walk on out. Watch how quickly they change their tune.

Look at it this way: They want this car off their lot. They want it off badly. It's value is dropping like a rock (about $1000 between monday and today due to the new incentive, plus it's only going to get harder and harder to sell as we get further into the model year.

They need to sell this car more than you need to buy it. Drive a hard bargain. You might lose your deposit, but your deposit is worth very little to them compared with the $30K they need to get for the car.

Because the incentive started on Wed. and not Monday (and like everyone said i did not take delivery of the car) I feel a little better and feel i deserve a something. I am waiting for a call back from the sales manager after he pulls my files. He didn't him and haw about it so I will post as soon as i get off the phone with him.

Oh to make things worse i figured I would max the credit card deposit for the extra miles. $2000. Man i feel stupid.

Well just got off the phone. Manager claims that they knew that there was going to be some kind of incentive on monday when they worked out the deal but that they did not know it would be that much. At first he said that he would split it and give us $1000 off. I than said I was hoping you could do $1500 off and he said ok. I know if i fought it some more maybe i could have gotten the whole $2000 but this a Dealer incentive not a cash back incetive. I can live with losing out on $500 but losing out on $2000 would have really pissed me off.

In the meantime I called another dealership who would have giving me a car for $1750 under invoice but it had to be on his lot. Than i told him my situation and he said the same thing that they would not take my deposit so renegotiate.

Thanks for all your help on the site. All in all i got the car for $1000 under invoice. And i think i got a pretty good trade in price.

Ok now i got $1500 for mods. Whats first? Pulleys. LOL.

For your sake I hope you recorded that. Otherwise you could find a very unwelcome surprise tomorrow. Not saying it will happen but it always could.

i would definitely renegotiate. i ordered my 05' C230k SS in january and picked it up March 21st. got it for $2,012 under invoice. i'm on the east coast, Long Island NY. i'm guessing you should've done better since you have a trade in that they will most likely make a profit on. good luck bro

Each dealer is different, all in all he should be happy with the price...I walked away from two dealers at 500 ABOVE invoice never to hear from them again...if they were willing to move anymore they would have called...in the Philly area there aren't many dealers and that was the breaking point. I had to go to Atlantic City just to get it at invoice (plus my tradein at $500>KBB)

Anyway, to AMGBENZ, enjoy!!

gratz IMO it's a great time to buy a 2005. However it sucks for those that bought one earlier in the year without knowing that the 2006 now comes with a 2.5 V6.

also the 1.8 s/c is not from 98...it was a redesigned engine in 2003.

btw, my friend's 03 230k sedan had the problems with the cam shaft, some stuff leaking and exhaust valves. good thing he still got warranty otherwise it's gonna be expensive.

the 1.8 is a good little engine. A bit too little for my taste, but i think Mercedes-Benz achieved it's goal at marketing towards a target audience.

but on the AMG note.....
how do you think the C32 folks feel ?!?

LOL !

Why do people cream their pants over a v6? The 06 has more peak HP but it comes beyond redline. I had the choice of getting the I4 or ordering a V6, and I chose the I4. Not only should it sound a lot meaner, it performs better. The published specs and simple math bear this out. Sure, it doesn't have a "V6" in it, but who cares. People say the broader range of peak torque in the 06 might compensate for the decreased lbft, but the I4 has a pretty flat torque curve that stays near peak torque throughout the rev band, and even at 5250 RPM the I4 is still putting out more HP than the V6 (192 vs 181). It's only in the VERY high revs (and perhaps below 2500) that V6 overtakes.

Both years are fine cars, but I think the 05 clearly has the performance edge. Now that performance difference is irrelevant and not worth argiung about with a car that's not designed for adrenaline junkies, but it's Friday, my office is empty, and I don't feel like doing much else. Both would make excellent city-drivers, the only difference between the two being the extra smoothness of the v6 vs. the tiny extra pull of the I4.

no argument here...the V6 has far superior modding capability. What was I thinking, in such a mod-happy forum???
