The silver 230 coupe is replacing a '93 silver Camry (150k miles) which is going off to college. Based on the 8 year experience with silver, it is far and away the best combination of easy care & look great for longest. My one venture into black (a 280ZX) looked wonderful, but required constant care. My white car was such a pain I wound up repainting the whole thing blue when there was some body damage. Anthracite grey was OK for the 12 years of my last benz, but silver beats them all. I like to spend more time driving and less time washing/waxing/obsessing about dirt and swirl marks.

Of course, the fashion police (wife and daughter) would still like black, but they dont wash and wax.

my favorite color is silver. but its also most people's favorite color. i've owned black, red, powder blue (ugh), and silver cars. my last three cars were all silver so i decided to go for a change. didn't realize that japisblau would be so prevalent probably would have paid for the green just to be a little different. i'll definitely buy a silver car in the future. btw, designo silver looks a little goldish to me in the photos. is that an accurate observation?

Traditionally, silver is the official German color. Green is British, red Italian, etc.

I've got a Capri Blue with Charcoal interior.

I believe the reason why the Silvers are the most popular is because of the car ads. In almost every Mercedes ad I've seen, the car has been silver. I guess that's how the color became the "classic" Mercedes look. And also, we all know that silver is the color of the millenium, right?

I have a C320 on order, with a scheduled build date of 1/13/2002. I chose Capri Blue with Java Interior. I loved Paprika, but MB does not offer that color in sedans. I liked Bordeaux Red, but I already have a signal red MB 190 and the Bordeaux Red can not be ordered with the Java interior I wanted.

Well, silver's only been the the German racing colour since the beginning of the Third Reich era - before then the national German racing colour was white, believe it or not. Check the colour of Christian Lautenschlager's Mercedes Grand Prix car circa 1914.

The colours I like on the C Sedan are, in order, Wedgewood Blue, Capri Blue, Desert Silver and the metallic forest green (or whatever it's called).

I don't think any of the C Sedan colours are really bad, but I am not partial to white or black. Also, I would try to avoid the currently popular colours.

But I don't own one, so why listen to me?

Aborwick, I've got a 2002 C240 in Capri Blue and Java (see my signature ). I also would have considered Bordeaux, but wanted the Java interior. Capri is an interesting color -- it changes a lot depending on the light. At times it can look purplish, but mostly a nice dark blue. Good luck w/ your C320 -- hope you don't have to wait too long.

Sunburnt Orange is the best colour on the coupe with a panaromic roof. It just seems to fit.

The new purple for the C is beautiful. Do not know the name and have only ever seen it once, and that was on a car being delivered yesterday.

statistically, the color the manufacturer features in commercials, and promotional material (like the car borchure) is the most commonly ordered color.

Right now mercedes has been featuring coupes in orion (catalog) and silver (TV) and c32s in silver (catalog)

ever wonder why you almsot never see a cl in anything other then designo, silver or black??? cause i dont think mercedes has any pictures of the car in any other colors for you to look at!

It is, but it's also hard to come by. Notice how many got silver? Just like I was prepared to in case they couldn't find me a blue one, they settled for that. Can't go wrong with silver. Or black, but that's a b!tch to keep shiny. Red's cool, too. Then there's obsidian black. Ouch, the extra charge! Capri blue? Cooool!

Is this the same as the bright apple green similar to the one beetles have? If it is, then I think that's really cool. I have it as my wallpaper on my computer from MB website even though I have a white one.

Howdy Folks:
My wife flipped out for the bordeaux red, and I must admit that it has really grown on me. If I could get a C32, I would probably prefer bordeaux red also (Norm's looks great). In reality, the best I could do would likely be a 2003 C320. We have not seen a Desert Silver in the flesh, but we both were impressed with MB-BOB's recent photo post.

My '03 C32 AMG will be Brilliant Silver... while there are other colors to choose from that are just as nice, I just have a strong attraction to Brilliant Silver even though almost everyone has it.

It would be interesting to match up the gender, age, and driving style of the owner to the color to see if there is a correlation.

Good point on age. I am older. I had a choice of a Magma Red or my Desert Silver C230. My wife and 21 yr old daughter wanted the red but it didn't seem right. I preferred something more subdued. I have no regrets. Driving style is harder. I still sometimes do foolish things although they are probably still pretty conservative.

i think the Orion Blue works on the coupe better than on the sedan.

the silver just works on everything...to much ppl have it thats why i went for the Obsidian
