in conjunciton with my other thread: major W203 reliability problems?
just need to know what the experience is with the C240 in particular re: reliability and glitches and whatnot.
my moms ML has been pretty good so far, and the wife's boss has 3 MBs (ML, 300E and SL450), and he swears by them, but there does seem to be some nagging problems that you all are experiencing in significant numbers.
since I don't read hear enough nor do I understand a lot of the MB-speak or normal issues, I ask you to offer a "top-10" (or more?) list of common problems on the C240 (squeaking panoramas need not apply).
THANKS! (again!)

Every car purchase is a roll of the dice. Some good and some bad. Your next BMW or MB may have some problems. Thats reality. How you deal with it is what differentiates us as human beings.

MB coupe.
5000 km and no problems.
I have just rolled over 5000 km and have had zero problems. No sunroof, so no rattles or squeeks, no alignment problems, no trouble with the seats or switch-gear.
I do have lots of front-whee brake dust, no CD player, and I wish the tach was bigger.
A great car that has given me no trouble, and gets admiring looks everywhere.
See ya, Smoky

July '01-built 2002 240 (sport), 7500 miles, no problems, no major complaints. If pressed, I'd say the transmission could stand to be smoother, and it would be nice to punch it from a dead stop and not have to wait that instant for something to happen. On the other hand, they build the AMG for that, and I'm coming from a Volvo 240 w/114 hp, so the C seems like a rocket to me! Personally, I love the seats - they really surround you, keep you feeling secure in curves - kind of fun, actually. My wife seems to like it OK, and she has a major leadfoot. Another gripe here, I guess: the base 240 doesn't have memory seats - a big annoyance when she drives, as I'm a foot taller than she is (and so she doesn't get to drive it much).
However, 20-plus years experience tells me you better make sure your wife's happy with the car! Good luck with your decision....

thanks pel! the example we looked at had memory seats, so that is good, and I thought the seats were very good for a basic sport-model. my wife is pretty skinny, and fairly bony, and her arthritis will only accentuate that over time, and the seat is too wide for her torso, she throws it into the corner and flies 6-8 inches before landing :SMACK: on the bolster.... apparently it hurts! ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
(this kinda belongs in the other thread now that I think of it)

das, if it helps, I've had no RELIABILITY problems at all with my sedan. To me, reliability means something related to the dependable operation of the car, not whether the car could use more power, etc.
I'd say my car came with three delivery defects (but not reliability defects).
1) Steering wheel had a clunking sound...interference with something rubbing colum, easily fixed
2) Memory function in my sunroof didn't work right. eventually fixed
3) Slightly out of alignment, easily fixed.
So, you see nothing major that would strand me away from home.
I believe there were some initial Key-related issues (not being able to start the car) but feel those were all early prod. 2001 issues that have now been debugged.
If your wife has arthritis, different build from yourself, etc., do get the memory seats. My wife loves that part. Bob
