C220 CDI
Performance Chips

Hi

I have a couple of questions regarding performance chips, I have a c200 CDI and was thinking of adding a performance chip is this a good Idea, is it safe, are the gains worth the price, does anyone have or know where theres a step by step guide on doing the yourself? any help or comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Do a search for chips / ECU programming etc....

C200 CDI is not a USA model, so you'll have better luck with non-USA based forums.

It would be great to have the diesel here now that premium is $3/gal but I don't think it will stay at that price long, I think we'll see $4/gal by the end of the year.

but isn't California Diesel more expensive than Premium Petrol anyway ??

at least here in San Diego, it is.

Avg Premium Petrol $3.00 a gallon
Avg Diesel $3.19 a gallon

what are the advantages to having diesel over regular gas? here in NY, diesel is roughly the same as premium. do they get better gas mileage?

A CDI goes about 33% further on a gallon of $2.80 diesel than an E350 does on a $2.75 gas.. so if you do the math, the Diesel is still 30% cheaper to drive... and the diesel has 100 more ft/lb of torque (which is what matters around town) than the E350.

That is all true, except the demand for diesel fuel (and manufactured lack of supply) will continue to push the price higher than gasoline.

What you forgot to mention is that the diesel takes twice as long to get going, and it sounds like a locomotive. All the way with Santa Fe!

i'm sorry but i don't quite understand your reply. why "yeah right"? premium gas by me is between $2.89 - $2.95 but diesel seems to be right there with premium.

well i doubt 4 dollars a gallon.... especially when demand will start falling toward the end of the year, also around here diesel is the most expensive of the gases. I see an avg 10-15 cent more than premium.
