- chip tuning -

Has anyone gotten their chip tuned for either the c240 or c320?
Where did you get it done? Did it feel like it made a big difference?

Even if you didnt get your chiptuned... do you know anywhere that does it for under $1k with a claimed hp increase of 10+?

thanks.

it's not 1k. upsolute has a standard price for all chips: $350 for the chip, $70 for instllation, $70 for testing if needed.

check their website

that is what they say on their website... find an upsolute dealer near you and call for a quote... they told me two different prices... one price was if i sent them my computer... the other was if i drove the car to them and they had to take the computer out themselves... the nearest dealer to me is about 4 hours away in Tampa

The web site is out of date. The standard price for Mercedes and Porsche is $500. The increase is because of the difficulty in opening the ECU module and the need to unsolder and resolder the chip. Installation is $75.

John Achille is a member of this forum - send him an email. He's in NY, but will travel. He's a really nice guy and can work with you on what you want.

I think there's a benzsport or mbnz member discount. Anyone know the specifics?

I have been advised by an extremely reputable tuner that ECU modifications are pretty much worthless on Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

I was told that you will have the extra performance for a little while, but eventually the chip will "re-learn" everything and you will be back at stock performance, and out of the money you spent.

If you get an ECU modification and you dyno your car and it shows you gained an extra 15 hp, well a few months down the road, that most likely won't be the case, and you will lose most, if not all performance that was gained.

The only plausible reason to "chip" your car is to remove the governer. Sure you may get a few extra horses, but it's more difficult to reverse than bolt-on mods. So, if you need to travel in excess of 155mph then get a chip, if not then start with intake, pulley upgrades, intercooler upgrades, exhaust, and other bolt-on mods first.

Boo2, the chip does not remove the 130mph governor, it does remap the timing curve.

That's probably why it's so cheap.

I dont think chips are that great for our cars. C240/C320. I think its great for a turbo car since it helps with the fuel/air and raise boost (A4/S4). But for N/A cars the advance in timing/ raising redline cant be that great. For the C230K I think it helps. For our cars....hmm....
