Engine noise when turning off

Since I wasn't able to find any pertinent thread addressing the engine noise I have been hearing, I wanted to inquire if any c230 (V6) owners have heard a clunk-clunk noise from the engine area when the motor is turned off. It sounds like metal on metal contact. It's clearly audible when the motor is turned off in a garage. My first guess would have been exhust related: something loose or making contact with perhaps a heat shield when the engine shakes a bit but an underbody inspection of the car has revealed no probable causes. At no other time is the noise audible. The vehicle has only 1800 miles and I'll have the dealer examine it at the time of its 1-3k inspection, but wanted to see if anyone had any insights or similar observations. And as far as I can recall, the car has done it since day one.

My 05 C230 sometimes has a clunk noise on shut off but its the exhaust making its last puff I believe. Only happens on a long trip or so.

You really need a few people around to listen carefully of the noise and make sure its the engine and not the exhaust. If you believe you have engine problems than you should go to another dealer or MB mechanic to take a look.
