Do you mean a spray onto the intercooler to cool it down? I have not, but a friend did on his GTI 1.8T. He said it works pretty good, pushing ~280HP at the wheels. The only problem was he had a pretty big CO2 tank in his hatch, and its really only useful for when you run mutilple runs down the 1/4 mile (when the IC becomes heat soaked).

Anyone else besides me think using N2O is a better idea? After all, CO2 kill combustion and Nitrous is an oxydizer.

If Im thinking of the same system, the CO2 doesnt get sprayed into the inter cooler but on to. There is a metal tubing ring that you install in front of the intercooler and this sprays the CO2 onto the surface of the intercooler to cool it down. People also do this but with water (Cheaper but not as effective). I think the most effective system would be to install methanol injection before the IC. This will cool the charge and keep the IC temps down, and also allow the water mix to vaporize long before it gets to the cumbustion chamber.

Oh, I know exactly how they work. The issue I am concerned with is flooding the engine compartment with combustion killing CO2 and how much of it will end up getting sucked into the intake charge? Since N2O is an oxydizer, it will help combustion if it is ingested into the engine.

Putting water/meth injection before IC also has it's concerns like puddling or accumulation of liquid in the plumbing. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done, however.

I think having N2O might be a little dangerous. As far as how much CO2 will end up in the intake? I think little to none. The C230's air intake is right on top of the radiator sucking in plenty of fresh air through the grill, I dont know how permeable the cloth hose is but that can be changed to plastic or silicon to stop that. The IC is in the bottom of the bumper and the gas as it passes through the IC will probably blow down under the engine. But that is a possibility, changing the cloth air intake hose would probably solve the problem.

Why would N2O be dangerous?

i dunno why i havent see any merc w/ superchargers car with it....
its been done all over evo, sti, and other turbo cars w/ FMIC....
im thinking getting it done, but i dont want to be the first... lol
it will lower the temp a lot and that will give over 10% increase (from what i heard)

You'll need to add fuel. Get a wet kit. 50shot...I wouldn't risk a 100, or even a 75. Don't hold the button forever with the supercharged engine. By the time that little 1.8 is taking 11lbs of boost, the added hit of the nitrous could spell detonation.

No man, we're talking about spraying it on the OUTSIDE of the intercooller to freeze it. Before spraying on the INSIDE, go to the dyno and check AFR to baseline. Dumping N2O with or without fuel in an engine is risky business but if done right, the rewards can be huge!

But can the ECU account for that? Or will it be out of the limits?

Maybe. Maybe not. That is why it is very important to go to the dyno to baseline your AFR. Some engines will not compensate for that much more oxygen.

That was exactly what my question was when I started a thread about this a few months ago. Cooling down the IC enough to cool the air will give you a denser charge, but will the ECU add fuel to that to make it useful? But that isnt where the advantage of this system (as with all intake air cooling system). The advantage lies in being able to advance the timing as close as possible to where the engine would be if it were N/A. That was my main concern, can the ECU advance the spark timing that much. If so, this system on a really hot day might give us back our lost HP and on cool days maybe even a 10+ HP increase depending on how much the ECU will advance the timing. I don't think I would ever use this system, I would rather have a water spray on the IC and a methanol injection... You know, for those really hot days. Actually, I would try to hook it up to inject at a certian temp & pressure. There is no point in wasting fluid if your not under boost or at a high enough temp where its really effecting you. The same with the IC spray, WOT and when the IC core is above a certian temp. Just a few ideas for when I have some spare $$$!

On hot days you will certainly see an improvement. Cold days, probably none. Cooling effect is less on cold days (lower delta T) and timing is already at optimum.

Be careful with water spray. Almost all tracks and sanctioning bodies have banned it due to loss of traction and some might big crashes.

Methanol injection is a great way to drop temps and add power. Again, be careful not to over do it!

Adding some devices to control injection or spray timing based on throttle, temp, etc. is a great idea and practically a must if you are serious about making reliable power.

Good luck!

Oh opps, forgot to add that... Yeah, by cool I meant around 70 degrees, on a cold day you may see a 1hp increase soley due to the fact that the air is a little denser from dropping the temps.

I dont track the car... There are no more places on LI, the Fun Police strike again! NYC/LI = "Land of NO... If it's fun, STOP IT!" I wouldnt bother with drag racing, its a C230... How fast am I going to go! I love road courses, but water injection in either form will be gone after the first few laps. The only thing that would work well there is a better IC.

Other than that we're on the same page!!!

Well, obviously it can. Youre not going get the IC cooler than it would be in the winter.

Exactly! Spraying N2O inside the intercooler is a different story!
