Thanks!

But, I'll be doing trial by written declaration first. If I lose that, I'll take my day in court (trial de novo). It was an infraction, so there won't be a prosecutor... If there was, I think I'd actually be in a better position.

if you haven't gone to court yet.... ask for an extension / new date.

when the new date comes up, ask for one more extension / new new date.

then go to that new new date court appointment.... 99% chance that the officer who wrote the ticket will not show up. And your case will be much easier to win.

Carlos, how do you get a 2nd extension? I've always tried and they never allow it. Do you have to go into the courthouse to get the 2nd extension?

I was always taught that changing lanes in an intersection was a violation, and believed as you have expressed.

Turns out, in California, there is no such prohibition. The solid lines are designed to alert a driver that an intersection is near. Helpful during periods of fog in the beach communities.

Who knew? It is nice to have a tranportation commissioner in the neighborhood.

I hope the ticket gets tossed by the writen declaration, but my experience is even when the police don't turn in their homework the law clerk that reads them finds you guilty. A new trial, a couple of delays, and then schedule trial for Friday afternoon just about insures the policeman will be a "no show."

That WILL work, if you can get the extension. Mars red....BAAAAAAAAAAAAD idea....horrible color. Gets you the wrong kind of attention, prima facie case right here.

i think it depends on the Circuit Court District. Here in San Diego, I was able to extend twice via written letter, followed up by phone call.
It may be different in O.C. / L.A. etc.....

here in FL I tried to extend my last ticket but the cracker judge's assistant at clerks office said NO. I provided proof that I needed to get extension due to business but the wench said no. It's an area notorious for writing tickets for revenue. I guess it depends on where your infraction took place really.....

Update.

After sitting on pins and needles for a month, I FINALLY found out the disposition of this case. It was tried (by declaration) on 12/14/05 and apparently DISMISSED one week later.

I don't want to jinx it though b/c I only found this out through their online system and haven't gotten a letter yet; but, it is such a relief.

On the Mars red thing, I have thought of trading my black C55 for a Mars just like it. The red/black is striking to me, and the red certainly complements its sporting nature. OT, hope things continue to look positive on the dismissal.

Congrats! Always nice to hear when people actually get out of a ticket becuase so many of us have not.

ANd ironically, had my car in for service last week and got a loaner Mars Red C230WZ, too. Had a little too much fun in it, and was sad to give it back, but not worth having it full-time for fear of those nasty coppers.

I think I'm probably the first person on the forum to not complain and actually say that getting a C-Class loaner car from the dealership was fun!

thanks! how did that turn out btw? did you go to court yet?

my trip was ok, Vegas was packed even moreso than usual, I'm already very bored with Vegas now though...

but, I ended up using my car b/c during our drive my mom's toyota er... lexus was slipping and sliding all over the place (and she forgot her luggage in the house so we had to turn back and get it and change cars). I had just waxed my car the weekend before and didn't want to move it from the garage, now it's totally dirty and nasty... I thought 16inch all season tires and frontwheel drive would be much better than 19inch ultra high performance tires and rear wheel drive in the rain, but the C-Class was solid in the rain...

Oh, I didn't tell you what happened? Well, I'm pretty sure I told you what the fine could've been. It could've been anywhere between $100-$1,000. I didn't want to bother fighting it, since I wasn't driving when it happened and would've been a pain in the ***, if I had to pay a bigger fine that day. Regardless, I plead "no contest" and the judge reduced the fine from $100 to $50 (which ended up coming to $180 after all the fees). Basically, she saved me around $150, so just glad it was in Westwood and not anywhere else. West L.A. courts are much more forgiving than anywhere else I've been.

I was ishing bricks before we went in for the arraignment because it was the first time that I had a "mandatory" court appearance and couldn't take care of it by phone, not to mention the fact that I was told this could be considered a misdemeanor.

Bored of Vegas, bro? How is that possible? Just wait till you're done this summer and have a job making good ends...Vegas will be come a whole lot more fun again!...LOL...Hey, btw, turned your resume in for you again. Haven't heard anything, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

But at least the Trojans have won the last 2/3 years and had a chance to win last night. LMU doesn't even have a damn football team and the Basketball team hasn't done a thing since Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble!...LOL...Oh well, obviously I didn't go there for the sports teams, otherwise it would've been highly possible I'd be a Trojan alum as well (even though the rest of my family is die-hard Bruin).

Dude, I totally missed the LHS championship game, but caught some highlights! Man, sucks that we didn't win ish when I was there. Oh well. I'm happy for the new coach. 1st year and a CIF championship. That's not bad at all.
