2002 C230 K
I don't think Mercedes/AMG are planning to offically run the C230K in any major series next year - but it wouldn't surprise me if a private team ended up running one. My guess is it would be run in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Challenge (DTC); this series contains cars such as BMW 320, Alfa Romeo 147, Honda Integra, etc.
As I've mentioned before my secret hope is that the C230K replaces the CLK in the DTM when the CLK moves to the E-platform in the near future (as an E-class based CLK seems a little too big for this series). I also wouldn't mind seeing it run in the GT category in the ALMS - although there probably isn't enough development time left to get one running for 2002. Too bad as BMW will probably pull out of the ALMS - due to the ACO (LeMans rule making organization) calling bull**** on their running 4L V8 M3s in a production based series (the new rules call for a realistic production homologization of around 100 units sold on two continents - otherwise a car has to run with engine restrictors plus an extra 100kg of weight).
Someone (I forgot who) was hoping for a rally version - although I think if Merc decides to go rallying they will likely use the A-class. It is more in line with the vechicles currently racing in the WRC: Subaru Impreza, Ford Focus, Hyundai Accent, Peugot 206, etc.
Regards, BT (who's always happy to discuss racing)

C230K Coupe/Orion/C4/C5/CD/AMG Spoiler/V60/TeleAid, 2 MGB's
heheh...
I'll take the Rallye version...they already have the parts needed in other model's production bins..all MB has to do is assemble them on the coupe platform and it's a done deal.

2002 C230 K
Hey Guys, I saw this today
It's a picture of the new 2002 DTM CLK. It rather C-classy front end may be where the C-coupe racing rumors have originated. Turns out this car may also be run in the ALMS-GT category (as I so feverishly hoped), so we'll have a chance to check it out and root for it here in the States. Both vehicles will be powered by 4.0L 460hp V8s. By the way racing in the ALMS may mean that there will be a road-going 400hp version of the CLK-GT available to the public.
I think the car is still somewhat in disguise as the look for the new CLKs has yet to be officially unveiled. Turns out they are building this car on the C-class platform and not the E-class platform as I previously mentioned. Although the rumor is the front end will look more like the CL (seperated headlights) and less like the C to enforce it's more upmarket niche.
Best, BT
