Power Seat control...

...I did try to STFF, but couldn't find anything on the power seat controls in the 203; I have someone looking at a 2001 C240 on my behalf, and he's telling me that the power seat controls do not handle the forward and back direction; that this is a manual adjustment (that's not the case in my 202). Is that the case? Also, is there somewhere I can enter the VIN to find out the features/option groups this car has? Thanks for you help.

Yes, the standard seats in the W203 are manual for fore-aft seat movement, and there is also a manual knob for thigh support adjustment. All other functions are electric - height, seat-back angle. I find this perfectly acceptable, but a lot of people opted for the full electric adjustment, which on early cars also included the memory functions [including the memory key], which was one of the most troublesome of the features that often failed on the early cars.

Yes, you could probably access the full option code list from a dealer's computer, but you need to know the codes and you have to be the current owner of the car, or have the current owner's permission.

Thanks for the tip JRCT; Citron, I value your advice, as I enjoy your posts and your obvious love for your car (not to mention the bold individuality of the citron color choice itself---or are you a different Citron230?). I have a car broker shopping for me, and he'll call me from an auction, oh, like 30 times with descriptions and possible price ranges, so I have to decide on the fly. He's not a fan of the C-Coupe, so it's all I can do to have him keep it on the list of possibilities (which includes C and E sedans, Sports and 4Matics, in boring silver or black). At least I'm assured that if he does find a coupe he likes, it should be extra fine!

I second Citron's full power/memory seats/mirrors/wheel recommendation.

I originally ordered my car (2005 Coupe) with that option because my wife is a foot shorter than I am, and I expected her to drive the car at least some of the time. Turns out she has driven the car for less than half a mile (as in 0.5) since it was delivered a year or so ago, and that I have driven it the other the other 7,500.

BUT, the full power feature is still great:
(i) I have two positions in the memory for myself (plus one for my other half, in the event she does decide to drive it). One is for highway driving, the other for city driving. It really makes a difference, and I love being able to make small additional adjustments while returning to the "right" position when I want to.
(ii) I have the car washed at least once every two weeks, and it's so nice to get back to the right position after the valets have changed the seat settings.
