Navigation Help

I'm in Southern California.

Does anyone know of any dealers in this area (or by other means) that I could get a US Spec DVD Command Navigation installed into my 2005 C230 Sedan?

What's the going rate?

If I need to piece this together myself, what components do I need? (part numbers would be a great help)

The dealers want at least $ 5,000 for the COMAND dash unit. You need an antenna and a couple of small dollar do-dads to hook it up. You then need to be connected to the STAR Diagnose computer to set the perimeters (called version coding in MB speak) for your car's equipment.

AT one time dealers were allowed to install the COMAND units in cars that did not have them, but there were many customer complaints about less than perfect work done in the dealer shops. It is not all that complicated, but it is not something a dealer normally does. Now MBUSA does not allow dealer installation, just as they have stopped dealer installation of model year 2006 SAT radios.

This fella Steve has a well deserved reputation for doing excellent work, and his prices are far below what a dealer would charge. He has the tools to do the "version coding" and can also do some things the dealers cannot do. He is at MbenzNL.com.

I have been searching the LA junk yards looking for a COMAND head unit, but no one with a COMAND has had the misfortune to total their car.
