Superior Handling for CL203

If you havent explored sway bars in addition to springs and shocks.....

The stock sway bars on the CL203 are a joke-

Adding a set of sway bars makes the CL203 razor sharp. Very crisp turn in- totally flat body stance. Highly recomended.

24mm front
22mm rear

The bars shown are Coupe bars-

In stock- $450 for the set.

VERY simple to install- no more than an hour if you have only a floor jack.

Are they lighter than the Renntech bars?

Actually, I think the Renntechs are something like $960 or so (no published thickness). Eibachs are $375 or so, and 24/22 mm.

Will have to give it some serious thought. Thanks for the info!

I saw these sway bars this morning. When you see them up next to the ones on your car the difference is significant. They will be my next upgrade

KLEEMANN, would installing the sway bars without changing the shocks/springs still help the handling?

What about the mounting points - on the bimmer there were issues with aftermarket sways ripping apart the mount points. The additional stress that was more or less spread through the 'weaker' bars didn't transmit to the unibody/frame members... but attaching a stiff bar with no flex clearly moved the point of weakness.

If memory serves, the UUC Motorwerks bars had available some stiffeners for the mount points, wheras the eibachs didn't.

Kleeman: any comments on this? I'd hate to pop some on and find they rip off at the mounting!

TIA

Good point-

The front sway bar mount is direct to the subframe- no "hanging" apendages. Bushing "clamshell" is pressure cast alloy- I dont see a problem here.

The rear is direct to the subframe as well- however the bushing "clamshell" and subframe are steel- still no issues.

Ride quality?

Brandon, I have a non C7 coupe and I really like the ride quality. But, I really want it to corner flatter. Will just the sway bars accomplish what i want-ie, flatter cornering with minimal impact on ride quality?

Adding sway bars will have little effect on the ride quality.

That said- sway bars connect one suspension arm to the arm on the opposite side. As you turn the bar tries to twist (torsion)- the stiffer (thicker) the bar the less twist (and less body roll). HOWEVER- a one wheel bump will effect the opposite wheel- slightly.

I have the non C7 package. Will adding the sway bars make much difference to my ride? And I don't plan on upgrading the suspensions either?

Actually, I don't know much about sway bars. What do they do?

kleemann, so for better handling would you go with a set of your springs or the Sway bars.

Well, he's going to tell you to do both, of course, silly.

They focus on different aspects of handling. New springs will work best if you get new shocks at the same time, and a drop will affect your ride negatively, but look better.

The sways won't alter the appearance of your car (read: no obvious warranty issues), but will help keep the car stable in the twisties.

My only remaining concern would be clearance of the bars in regard to aftermarket exhausts.

The bars will have minimal effect on ride quality, but will reduce body roll when cornering in a sporting manner. The bars function as torsion bars. They generally are attached to the lower control arms and to two points on the chassis. As the body leans in a corner, it applies a twisting (torsional) force to the bar. The steel bar doesn't want to be twisted and resists that force, keeping the body in a more level attitude. The length and thickness of the bar determines its stiffness.

All suspenison mounting points are the same for all 203's, so these bars will fit a C32. I have read that the front bar on a 230 is the same bar used on the C32.

Lynn, please try to keep it clean!

Very good explanation. I'd give it 4 1/2 salesmonkeys out of 5.

Just what I need, half a salesmokey.

Maybe I can trade the salemonkeys for the receptionist at my stealer.

I must be the only one wondering what a CL203 is. Can I trade somebody 2 1/2 salesmonkeys for a brain?
