I have my iPod mini hooked up through aux-in on my Comand unit and it's lower volume than the radio and CD but I just turn it up more. You almost have to have the volume on the iPod cranked up to max.

Well you could always build youself a nice little preamp for the ipod, but what's the point, there is really no solution to this aside from this. This is a typical problem for portable devices that do not have a aux out option. The output of such potable devices are just smaller as compared to standard aux out levels. If you want louder sound, buy something with an aux out like many sony MDs and MP3s.

Interesting........
Though I have an ipod mini running through my integration kit and not a Nano, I also found it to be a bit quieter than the radio. I'll try increasing the volume on the ipod itself to near max and see if there is any difference. Otherwise, I've just been turning up the volume on the steering wheel buttons and enjoying it!

The manual for the iPod kit recommends setting the equalizer to Pop. I had it there for awhile and it wasn't loud enough. I turned off the equalizer setting and it seems a bit louder. You might try that. It is never going to be loud enough, amigo.

Have you considered the quality of the music on your iPod? I have not noticed the problem you describe. Most of my music is AAC, encoded at 128 Kbps (stereo).
You should try playing with different encoding schemes (AAC, MP3, etc) at various bitrates and see if it makes any difference.

Don't know if this might help but...
I use a freeware utility call MP3GAIN that allows you to set one or all .mp3 songs in a folder to a specific volume level measured in decibels (DB).
It helped me solve one of my pet peeves in that there seems to be no standard for recording with a uniform volume level. Hence, you constantly have to be playing around with the volume control when going from one song to another.
This utility solves this problem! By default it will analyze a song (or all songs in a folder) and set the volume level to ~89.0DB but you can tell it to set it to say 94.5DB and see if this helps. Anyway, you can change it as much as you want without 'hurting' the recording. It even has a "Analysis" mode that will show you what it found and what it would have set the volume level to if you want it to.
Here's a link to the dowload and the user reviews: MP3Gain
I've been using it for years and have no complaints. Hope this helps.

Solution For Low Volume Ipod With Integration Kit
All,
I spoke with 3 reliable sources to be sure that this info is correct, Director of MBUSA Parts, Local Shop Forum at MB and Director of OEM product development at one of the Apple divisions.
There are 4 revs/versions of the Mercedes-Benz iPod integration kit. The 3 older version part numbers are either : B678242, B67824219 or 4B67824210. If you have any of these models, your iPod module has a known defect/flaw and will have 25-40% reduction in volume.
This flaw was fixed and the newest part # with brand new module is:
B67824238 !!! Make sure you have this one and you are good to go!

Thats wierd. Adjusting the volume on my ipod doesn't change the volume in the car. My iPod is just as loud or louder than cds with the ipod integration kit. But i have the 5th gen ipod video.

Anyway, I just replaced my old kit with the new one and it is much much much better in terms of audio quality. Thanks for the heads up!!!
PS - anyone want a slightly used iPod kit that has less than stellar audio quality?
