COMAND WIRING QUESTION LOOKING FOr SIMPLE ANSWER
I have taken my car apart for a dry run, and i have a question about possibly installing the unit WITHOUT the Adaptor Harness.
Q: In the pic attached it shows the existing 'C' cable/harness from the car. Now i dont have these 2 cables.
C pin 5 (red/blk CD changer +)
C pin 6 (brn CD changer -)
(photo was taken from the benzw0rld publication, and i modifyed it in Photoshop)
Soo...As it says above, does the 'CD Changer' mean the 6 Stack cd player in the glove compartment? (my car did not come with the cd stacker option)
NOW
If i am right in saying that i dont have these two wires because i dont have the cd stacker option....
Q: Do i need the 'C1' Connector at all?
Sorry for the longish post and Thanx

Just another thing...
Will i have to cut/splice the 3 wires and crimp them so that they will fit into the pin housings of the 'C2' connector? Or Is there a way to get the wires out with a screwdriver like with the inner part of the 'C2' conector that Steve Supplied me with?

So is there a way to get the ISO pins/wires out of the Housing (pictured in my first post) without having to cut the wires?
I take it that you intend to remove the COMAND and sell it when you sell the car. So you are trying to avoid permanent changes.
On the last two trips to Melbourne I would have installed a parallel wiring harness only for COMAND and tied back the original radio connector but since you only offered me $35 USD to install and wire the COMAND system then I guess there was no room to move.

I would suggest you have someone else do the wiring as crimping the pins requires a special tool. 35USD to install the comand? You must mean to place the remote in his glove box. the connectors and pins alone are worth that much.
greetingz,
What the Hell Miro...$35!
I seriously dont get you, one minute your cool as hell with me trying to help and the next your vilifying me on a public forum! I will be the first to admit that i try and save and use MY cash in a manner that I see fit. You as a service/reseller whatever, can offer me a price, but i still have final say as to wether or not i will part with MY money for it.
Perfect example you sell 'steve supplyed' comand units for $2450.00AUD that was not the price you origionally quoted me over the phone. Granted installation cost werent included in that price, but i felt that your installation fee was too steep for ME. We tried to come to an arrangement but both of us had our reservations so nothing further took place. Regardless I bought my comand from Steve as it was cheaper, same product but cheaper, and yes including import dutyies and taxes etc.
Miro, i dont have a problem with your business, as i know that you are knowledgeable and have provided AUS pepole with a satisfactory service. Its just when it come to PR you fail me, im not saying you fail others just me.
I kindly ask that you refrain from vilifying me on this forum and please stick to the topic of the post. That said i believe i have all the information required from my 2 to 3 questions origionally asked.
Thanx again to all including Miro!

Since I was devalued and mocked by you on the phone for 15 minutes I figured that since no one else will do the work for that much then I dont feel so bad now.
I realise that many 100's of hours of experience is no match for a few bucks so good luck with everything. MBENZNL supplies the best product and the best service and you will have no problems with warranty at all. Just send your COMAND back to the NL if anything goes wrong.

These are AUD, x0.75 for USD, x0.60 for Euro. Pretty much the same price as any other MBENZNL dealer around the world when you remove the excessive importation taxes, extra freight and company taxes.
MY kit also includes an installation of a whole new COMAND factory wiring harness and not the adaptor harness. I think both kits come with AUX port.
Since you were quoted 1 hour self install and it takes me about 2 hours to install all the parts I use then I felt foolish try and tell you otherwise especially when you ask me things like "what is your company number, what is your address" considering that all these things are on my eBay page and on my invoices. Steve was patiently waiting for me to get off the freakin phone so that I could assist him to finish the car we were working on.
For a small sum of money Steve would have installed it himself in person but since there wasnt even enough money to pay for the air tickets you didnt meet either one of us. There are people that drive all over the USA or gladly pay whatever it costs to meet "the man" in person - your loss.

installing commands ... i think a 12 year old can do it given the right instructions, so why pay $300 ? that would be a big loss
1 complete wiring harness upgrade to OEM standards with COMAND connectors without cutting wires = comes with CD stacker prewire
1 AUX install to OEM standards
1 GPS antenna install - as per retrofit instructions
1 All coding and diagnostic functions done with Star Diagnose.
You try getting that done in the UK for less than 300 Pounds Sterling. Australians have the strangest ideas about what things are worth since the dealers dont charge to look at the car like they do in the USA and UK. It is not uncommon for someone to pay $200 USD for a diagnostic service alone and that would take the dealer all of 30 minutes.
So whilst you are correct about the average ability of children I can assure you that none of them have a diagnostic.

its nice to know that u laugh at your self and people who paid u $300 with command install
I personally dont find anything wrong with paying for convenience. So it follows that you also pay less for more inconvenience.
(did I mention that I also provide several other coding functions at no extra cost ..... the ones that dealers cant do).
1 AUX install to OEM standards
when u sell your car whos gonna pull out the radio to see if u have used the correct wiring harness ?
so to me wiring harness is a waste of moneyand for $1 USD u can prob get a buck load of this **** in china if u find the right factory
i am Electrical Engineer, GPS antenna can be made at no cost using your TV coax cables..just google it n see
so to me installing command just a bit of $ 50c effort..nathing more to it
$300 yep not for me
easy for me as there is a documentation on hacking command with Linux
i don't have command but i read the doc on it ,
its just as simple as finding the right register and change it,
and if i do have command in the furture, i would provide this service as well to people at no cost this is what MB forums all about, mods u can do your self or at a minimum cost, and sharing this knowledge with others instead of charging a BS amount of money

You are talking about your own car .... since anyone that pays for public insurance CAN NOT afford to install for others free of charge.
Be sure to mention the fact that so many SLK and W203 mods were published by myself, Sunman and Steve. Three people who charge an honest price for honest work.

Ever tried to get warranty out of someone who installed for free ? Its more fun than an oil slick in a duck pond.
i am sure most people like to pay for convenience and quality install, and i got nathing aginst that
but $300 for such a install ? not me
and did i say i was gonna install commands for people ? no i said i could offer service like Tv hacking....there is nathing to do with installation
we are not talking about engine parts here
why pay $$$ when its all simple DIY ? sure time is money, but i wonder how much OEM GPS antennas r ? u ever tried open the thing up ?
it would be the same from wiring COAX your self except it could be printed on a circuit borad in a nice packaging
after all u just paying for the packaging and all the dealers it had to go through
if u want pretty GPS antennas which hides underneath your dash board..go for it
u don't need a Boeing engineer to tell u how to wire up a Command and simple GPS antenna
