Forging is a process of reshaping the material under pressure and (usually) temperature. It brakes up the grain structure, and minimizes defects (that ARE present in all castings). Just because it's forged, doesn't mean it's quality though... but I would believe DCR's are quality wheels. There's a lot more to the strength and quality of steel / aluminum / other alloys than whether is forged or cast. For instance, the high-temp turbine blades for jet engines are gravity cast... and they're about as high quality material as you can get.

(can't help it, I'm a metallurgist...)
