Yeah... usually the first 1-2 years of a new model are the times when it has the problems that they fix in later years. But that's offset by the fact that it's either a brand new model or a new design. Got the C-Coupe first thing when it came out in the US, and the same with our ML way back when. The ML was a great unique car at the time, but it was such a piece of crap when it came to all the flaws that a first-edition carried with it. Perhaps the greatest flaw of that car was that the front passenger door handle was blocked and could not be opened while the cup-holder was down.

My comment was directed towards Mercedes101, he said he cannot justify a C-Class that costs more than 40k, well a C32 is starting at 50k, and that car is more than justifiable.

C240 Auto

I guess I got over the need for neck-straining off-the-line acceleration when I put about 350HP worth of small-block Chevy V-8 and a Muncie 4-speed in my 1972 240Z Datsun in 1983. The car was fun (it would smoke tires in all gears), but enabled me to average about 8 points of speeding tickets on my license (out of 10 max) for several years. I'd still have that car but it was stolen from the BWI airport parking lot during a business trip.
I replaced it with a 36HP 1964 Karmann Ghia....go figure??

I actually like the C240 Auto, and the transmission does really adapt to driving styles. My spouse commutes to school during the week and after she drives it for a few days, the car shifts early. However, when we visit my daughter in Orlando, we do about 80 miles of interstate, then 25 miles of winding 2-lane (ALL Florida roads are flat, but in central Florida, roads wind around lakes a lot!) Anyway, by the time we get there, the transmission is shifting at close to redline, and holds a gear even if you lift a little during a turn. For a little more fun, I can use the "flip-shift" feature to shift semi-manually.

I wonder if the person who thinks his/her C240 is too slow off-the-line, has the transmission in "Winter" mode, which starts the car in 2nd gear?

There are other cars with better handling/power/features/etc/etc, but it is ultimately your choice on what to get. The only thing that I would complain about is that it did not come with the Cd changer standard. Otherwise, it is a great car.
my sentiments exactly.
