2003 C230 Sedan
Mammoth travels [snow tires or chains?]
Hi all,
I have a C230 sedan and will be driving to Mammoth mountain almost every other weekend this season. I live in Orange County, CA and obviously do not need snow tires when I'm here. I can afford snow tires but a whole new set of wheels is probably not in the budget.
Any reccomendations for my particular situation? Thanks very much for any advice.

Serendipitous timing. The Mrs. made the trek up there today with a friend in their G55.
Pizza and ping pong for my son and me – kinda like being a bachelor.
It’s probably prudent to carry some low-profile chains just in case. You’ll likely only need them during or immediately after a recent storm for getting to and from your accommodations. The main roads are promptly manicured by public and private road crews to help make getting about relatively easy.
Depending upon your tire size - 245 or larger – take special care that the chains will not interfere with the wheel well. The compromise to overall vehicle dynamics is probably not worth fitting A/S tires for the season’s worth of weekends in the white stuff. Trust you’re already aware, though, that high performance summer tires are seriously traction deficient when subjected to freezing temperatures.

nah just use your stock wheels as winter wheels and throw some nice blizzaks or winter pirellis or michelins and you should be straight. rather save up for summer wheels.

For Mammoth you will need chains .
For small stuff like Mt High I get away with just my all season tires, but up there its icy and there'll prolly be CHP check points.
I would get chains
