Question Do you use Daytime Running Light feature?

As I said in Subject, do you turn your light setting on for the daytime running light?

There's no choice of it being off in Canada, so, mine is always on.

In general, I don't like DRL's, so I don't use the feature. But, over and above that, since I have Xenons, they would be on all the time and I don't want them to die a premature death. (For those who don't know, the Xenons are run at full power in DRL mode -- they cannot be dimmed).

Like everyone else here, I do not use them. Keep the lights on auto - switch to on/fog lights when necessary.

Their lifetime, on the other hand, is much longer than that of Halogen ones, as there is no filament that gets thinner over time and eventually breaks.

I do use them. This helps tremendously - those who don't use them, try it for a change - with DRLs on you are treated differently by other drivers (in a positive sense). And I do believe that they improve safety. Cheap insurance, if you will.

Your right Vadim, dont they last between 2-3 times longer than regular halogen bulbs, also halogens life span is reduced even greater by constantly turning them on/off. So I doubt that it will really reduce your xenons life. Look at it this way, in a couple years when the xenon bulb dies (probably be more than a few years) xenons will hopefully be really popular and be alot cheaper. Remeber when CD burners came out 2 years ago. $250 a piece now you can get them for $45. Xenon prices will continue to fall i think and hopefully the quality will go up.

Yepp, always. We in Sweden are forced (by law) to use them all the time. Even when light switch is in "0"-position the DRLs are on.

I use the DRL's and keep the headlight switch in Auto. Since I can see cars with DRL's better, especially in Florida rainstorms, I figured others can see me better also.
I think the manual says DRL's with standard headlights, run the lights at partial power which should not contribute to their early demise.

DRL

Yes, but they're mandatory in Canada. The DRLs run at full power, on low beam, in our C 230 K Sportcoupé.

I can't believe that some Mercedes-Benz drivers are willing to compromise on safety to save the cost of a headlight bulb or two (especially if they are the regular halogen variety). You might as well trade the M-B in for a 1979 Datsun B210, if you're that cheap and unconcerned about collision avoidance

DRLs have been proven in Canada and Scandinavia to increase visibility and reduce accident rates. My advice, for those who have the option, is to use them. At the very least, ALWAYS use headlights on two lane roads, in all weather conditions.

Nope

This darn car seems to always be going a little too fast so I don't really want to attract any extra attention.

I know drivoing with DRLs is safer...studies have shown that...but the way people drive here in AZ...it doesnt matter....people here in AZ drive like s....t...wonder if the others who live in AZ agree with me. I have driven aot of miles...and AZ could be one of the worst states for driving. People are just stupid here. No courtesy...no common sense. Could be road rage capital of US. Sorry to get off subject...but if we are talking about safety..I agree we should be running DRL's.

Xenon DRL don't blind people; they are noticeably less bright during the day for some reason. It is much safer during rainy and foggy days!

I do the same, but only because I want my fogs to go on with my headlights.

I mostly have my city and fog lights on during the day. The fog lights are very noticable to other cars, not because they are bright but because their field of illumination is so wide.

I'm the same. Like CHMSLs (center high-mounted stop lights)before it, drls are now so common, that their safety value is now virtually nil, IMO. Nowadays, I only notice a car with drls when one of them is burned out.

thats true.

I happen to think the corvettes look kinda cool with just the parking lights on. it actually makes the car stand out good enough. IMHO just as good as DRL's maybe even better because during the day and orange light is more noticable than white (light) headlights.

Oh, so true. The drls on the Corvette are really exceptional. I notice those all the time.... Er, maybe it's the Corvette that I notice.

lol, but they really do make the car stand out alot, like when i see one traveling on the opposite side of the road even if i am not looking directly at it, it will attract my attention much much better than headlights. Not to mention if a corvette had Day time running Headlights there would be no point of having pop up headlights, well i guess only when the car is off.
