Just a guess, but do you have a manual? If so, do you raise your arm to shift, or simply rest it on the armrest as you do and rub with your elbow? Just a thought I had when I saw mick1's pic.

I have an 02 manual and i've had the car for about 3 years now. Never had any problems with the armrest. I do detail the interior once in a while and clean up all the leather and then spray a protection coating on it.

I used to rest on the armrest and shift but now I would raise my arm and shift. I try to never touch the armrest.

mine is an automatic... I'd like to think that we can actually use it as an armrest without having to worry about it doing this.
and, I don't want to use kiwi or any shoe polish b/c it's not leather nor do I want a gob of black stuff on my clothes...
arrg. I guess next time I go to the dealer...

what do you use to detail it? I don't want to use armorall, but I have the MB leather seat care and that's it. what protection coating do you use? thanks!
Otherwise I use the Stoner trim cleaner and then spray over with the Stoner shine one.

r3v1ls, I'll try that stuff out... sounds good, thanks!
I know that, I've had them replace it four times already, I was just wondering why the hell does it always happen... It gets to be pretty annoying when you keep on having to have it done and what will happen once warranty expires?

This is really amazing... I've had my car 4 years and 8 months, and my armrest looks brand new. I rest my arm there all the time, too. I thought maybe it was a color thing, as mine is Java, but I notice two others posted earlier in this thread that his charcoal armrest is fine as well.
I've done nothing special with my armrest... just warm water and MB-Tex cleaner once a year...

Mine is completely different than the ones posted above so i'm wondering if it possibly has to do with the year of the car.

My 02 didn't do it. My 05 did it once already.
They must have changed the material sometime in between although it looks the same.

That is sucks..
I have a manual trans and I usually rest my arm to the armrest. So far so good and the leather are good. What can I do to prevent it from fading/peeling other than not resting my arm to the armrest...

Yea, I have Ashwood on my manual and it does that. Haven't bothered to take it into the dealer, because if i give it a good cleaning with some specific solution it goes away. Only to re-appear in about 2 months. So i've just been dealing w/ it.
