Howdy Folks:
I would go with an iridescent lens. If a 12v is not available, try cutting a cover with a diamond rotary disc from a 110v iridescent candlelabra bulb from Home Depot.
They have them on display so that you can see the color variations and intensity. Good luck whichever you choose.

Quick update on replacing rear lic-plate lights...
I had replaced my rear license plate lights about a year ago, switching from the stock W5W to the 10W white bulbs (Polargs). People complained about fuse and melting issues, and I had always assumed mine were fine because I didn't have any fuse problems, but...
I checked the bulbs for the first time since I installed them, and it turns out they ARE melted in... But they still work okay, since the melted plastic is away from the contacts for the power. I'm thinking I'll just buy new OEM plastic lenses when these bulbs wear out and just melt them all over again. I didn't see any real problems with this kind of long-term "damage".
Feel free to post any opinions about this. Flames are fine, but they will be ignored since I have better things to worry about. This is just to let people know just in case they want to buy their own.

Have you tried any of the little LED lights? Some superwhite or purplish ones would be pretty neat back there.

I have the same bulbs...haven't had any probs...but then again..I haven't opened the lens to look inside...I'll check over the weekend.
BTW - I think those bulbs give off the perfect lite...not a fake blue.

There are some "white" LED's that are super bright, and have a bluish look to them. I looked at my car, and it uses a C5W lamp. This is a UN specification for bulb shape. Benz uses an Osram 6418MB lamp. Another Osram choice might be 6814D, which is specified for daytime running. Digikey has a LED that looks to be bright, but slightly smaller than the C5W specification, but it is rated for 12 volt service, and would require no changes in the wiring. It only draws 30 mA against 450 mA for the lamp. Polarity is important for LED's so you need to verify which lamp terminal is positive, and insert the LED accordingly. The link is

Might be interesting to see how these look.

not sure but i thinkthey are 37mm dome bulbs, I put 39mm ones in mine and they work fine. BUt no LED ones will work without a load equilizer, and since there is no room for them, and they get super hot, just get super white bulbs or something like that.

Not unless you did waht outland did, basically equalizing the load by keeping the stock bulbs, way too much work, just get some super white ones, so much easier, just plug and play, and will look just as good.
