Why does this keep coming up on my display?

Why does this keep coming up on my display?
I keep getting this message that says "Backup lamp ON" What the hell does that mean? rear fog is always off when i see it and no i'm not in reverse

For indicators / turn signals, your front side lights or foglights function as indicators if your indicators blow.
I have had this occur before (in the UK the display says Substitute light on).
To check, get out of the car when the message is on an you may find that your brake lights (top of the cluster) are now acting as your running lights. They still function as your break lights so don't worry.
It's an interesting safety feature & shows the length of though MB go to.
