lights don't blink as expected in response to the key fob
On December 26, I went to get into my car and found the battery had died. I was trapped out of my car with no key to get in. To wrap this up, the dealership toed the car away and got into it. They then diagnosed the battery drain as being caused by a seat control module. They replaced the module and the car works. The key was lost by UPS on its way to Mercedes to be duplicated. Tuesday, the dealership will be installing a new lockset in my car.
When I got my car back from the dealership in working order a week or so ago, I noticed something strange with the external lights and how they blink in response to the fob. I called the dealership and was told that this was normal. Maybe it is, but I think I would have noticed it sometime in the year and a half since I bought the car.
When a door is ajar, the lights do not blink in response to lock from the fob. They will however blink in response to unlock. If all doors are closed the lights blink both for unlock and lock. The dealership thinks this is a feature designed to aid in alerting the driver that a door is ajar. Is this correct? In the past I used to lock the car with the hatch open and put my keys in my pocket before loading my hands. I never noticed this before. By the way, even though the lights do not flask as expected, the car still performs the locking operation.

Anyone willing to test theirs and let me know if the lights are acting up?

- This behavior is also described in the owners manual.

Woah. I can't believe it took so long for me to learn this. BTW, I'm a guy and I don't read the manual unless I need to know something specific. I like to learn by doing. Push button watch to see what happens.
Thanks for letting me know.
