trunk handle

Hey, I saw this trunk handle that is supposed to help keep your car from getting fingerprints on it when closing the trunk. Question, has anyone bought this? If so, is it durable, or will it break right away? Also, does it look stupid, and is it really noticeable? Any info is appreciated

I'm not sure if anybody has ever started a thread about this before, but I definitely have seen it in older posts. I think a few people on here have purchased that. Not very many people get that though or talk about having it, so that's probably why you didn't get a response.

As for the durability, from past threads that have mentioned this thing, supposedly it's durable for the purpose it serves (i.e. closing the trunk), but is most likely not something you'll want to lean on or put significant pressure on.

Hope that helps.

But then you'll just get fingerprints on the handle. What a nightmare.

I got the handle -- I actually bought it before getting my car LOL! Here's the thing - I find that using the handle prevents the trunk from "slamming" shut like it normally used to from me trying to be careful and avoid fingerprints on the trunk lid. It doesn't stand out too much at all, and sure the handle gets some fingerprints on it -- but its SOLID metal. I'd rather have fingerprints there than on the paint/finish of the car. Plus I find it easier to close the trunk with - normally you'd have to pull down on the trunk a bit then push on the top of the trunk lid -- with this, I just pull on this from the get-go.

Its sturdy, solid - will not bend, although it is attached to the license plate screws - trust me, get longer screws when you put this on so it holds better, I got em at Home Depot. Its a fun little accessory that I find useful.

There is a built-in handhold inside the trunk lid that is used to drop the trunk without getting one's hands on the paint. With familiarity on its use, it's a snap to close the trunk without slamming it. Notice I didn't say with practice, as it's an intuitive no brainer to use once you understand how much or little pressure is needed.

The integral handhold is out of sight completely, so it does not collect visible fingerprints of its own, as would this external bit of chrome. Further, it doesn't present another obstacle to clean around. So it is an elegant solution, negating the need for this bit of bling, unless you simply like the looks (I do not, imo). I think that is why it is not that popular.

Otherwise, you can choose to waste $26.50 on it, as this mail order operation is part of a local dealer here in Dallas, and pure profit in my hometown economy is always appreciated. Of course, it'll look fruit without the matching chrome plate frame that goes with it... add another $35. Ka-ching...

I complete agree with MB-BOB. I use the 'built-in' handle on the inside of the trunk lid. And again, like he said, it doesnt slam if you do it just right.

Not worth the $$ to get the chorme one IMO.

Haha. I usually order my oil from there, too because they offered the best price.. so I guess no matter what I decide, I'm still supporting the Texas economy :p

If you could take a pic of your car with the handle, I'd be grateful I just want to see what it looks like on a car before I go spend the money on it. I also find that using the black handle on the inside of the trunk causes me to slam the trunk in order to make it shut.

Thanks for all the responses, btw.

had it on my C230 and my sisters ML350, its a plus on the ML cuz the boot open high, and its nice on the c230 just i like the reflection on it and its nice when "OTHER PEOPLE" try to close the trunk for you. so they know where to grab
