Black car door handles?

Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy... Well, I am but not because of this... Anybody with a black car help me out here. I noticed that my cars door handles are not the same black as my car. They look to be obsidian black. Did anybody else notice that, or am I seeing things?

a lot of 040 colored sedans seem to have 197 colored handles...a lot of 197 colored coupes seem to have 040 colored handles...apparently the peeps at the assembly line in germany don't care about the difference in those 2 colors...

your car DEFENITELY is NOT a one-of-a-kind

My '04 is like that too. If I remember correctly, someone here said that the metallic color hides scratches more. When my car was brand new, I waxed it & noticed the difference in color & went back to dealer. We checked a salesman's black car and it also had the metallic handles.

greetingz,
that is soooo weird. so I guess the guy putting in the handles at the assembly line is losing his vision. perhaps we should contact MB and ask him to be transferred to the Chrysler plant where he'll be better suited.

Ah! Thanks guys! I figured it was probably common. I thought maybe it was that the metallic black was more durable or something, but then thought that that cant be it, it must just have been grabbed from the wrong bin.

Hey, at least the door handles are painted. My old C240 Classic had non-painted plastic doorhandles!!

I think you might want the Chrysler guys painting the cars instead. The paint on my wife's pacifica is ten times more durable than what's on the benz, and its all the right color.

What likely happened was they ran short on door handles with the same black color, and a deviation was issued to use the other color. Look at how long it took you to notice...I'm sure that was the reasoning. There could have been a quality problem, or a functional defect that sidelined the right color parts, or the paint line was down. You guys should spend some time at a factory, its amazing how much stuff can go wrong. Shutting the line down, or cutting units is amazingly expensive, and can get a plant manager, his engineers and the supervisors fired if its not for a very good reason.

not possible - the people that work at the assembly line swap shifts so that they have somewhat variation in their work

and it definitely has nothing to do with the black handles being out of stock and the obsedian handles being overstock - it is just something that happens...a lot

greetingz,

When Steve was installing my lights this past weekend, he pointed out that my door handles were also Obsidian black and were not the same shade of the rest of my car. I never noticed before, but then again, I was not looking that hard either.

I asked my buddy who works at Fletcher Jones about this becasue I was wondering the same thing. He told me that it was a different color because it is a scratch resistant paint. So dont sweat it, its made to be a different color, and its very hard to notice too so Im fine with it.
