Help on shift knob install
Don't know if that's the same for an auto or not; don't know which you have. But, that's the way that I have been told is how it works.
Caveat: your results may vary, so don't try to overly force the issue; if the knob won't give, you may be doing something wrong. Good luck - post pics/how it went when done.
Here's what I know: for a manny, you have to pry the base of the boot from the center console area (making sure not to scratch anything). Once you do that, you'll be able to feel a ball-type thing underneath the knob; turn that counterclockwise (as seen from above) to loosen. Then the knob should just pop off (might be a little work to get it to come off).
First park the car with the lever pointing straight up (Turn the motor off while in Reverse). Pry up gently using the credit card, in several places... the bezel will pop-up Then, pull the bezel and boot up over the knob, (you won't get it over the knob, just as much as possible) and you'll see the twist lock tommy describes. (Dark gray/black, looks like a cone with raised, vertical ribs on it for grip). Turn it 1/4 turn counterclockwise, as you look down at it till it can't be turned anymore (this may take both hands to loosen). Then, pull up on the knob. Don't be shy, but don't crack your sunroof, either. It the lever is pointing up, you should be OK.

So, sorry, Mr. Standard knob works fine for me.

I think that you could have gotten a more creative name as well. Especially coming from a telemarketer.
Jimbo - make sure that you post your results; I'd like to hear from someone who's actually done it. Thanks.

It's plastic and there are extensions beneath it at front and back center to hold it in place.
Pull up the shift boot and ring (along with W/S switch and shift gate) to expose a nylon locking ring. Twist it 1/2 turn clockwise (or is it the other way?) and push it down on lever with the shift boot. Pull straight up on shift knob...mine was hard to pull off. Be carefull not to booger up the wood when you remove and replace the chrome ring/shift boot holder. The wood knob looks great.
Post pics of your new knob when you get it on!
searched the forums.... still looking for an answer on how to remove the shift knob / boot. Does it twist off ? pictures ? or do I have to remove the whole shift plate & boot ?

do you do the reverse order after you are done? because I'm wondering if the release mechanism actually put the gear in Neutral.
I mean can't you just put the shift on Neutral ? It seems like it was unlocking something ? so I assume it needs to be locked back again when finished...
