Painting up engine bay - whats your opinion?

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to get some comments on an idea I had to make some changes to my engine bay.

1st - change air intake pipe to polished stainless steel and add two Blue Silicone intake couplers and clamps.

2nd - paint various plastic bits the same colour as blue intake couplers.

Note - all of this is only for looks and does not add anything else.

For pictures, please see the below thread.

Looking forward to your comments.

All I can say is damn that's blue!

Not my style, but it came out nice. Not sure If I would do any more as it might take away from the wow factor if there is too much blue.

I think it looks good as long as you don't paint the boxes on either side. Those would look better wrapped in c/f.

For those that call a painted engine cover rice, I suppose every single Mercedes tuner (Carlsson, Brabus, etc.) are rice as well

Thanks Guy's for the comments.

So far I have not painted anything and this question was just to get some ideas from everyone. I have a piece of polished stainless tube to replace the inlet duct. This is connected to the airbox and inlet scoop with Blue SFS Performance straight coupler silicone hose and clamps as you can see.

I then thought it would be an idea to cary the same colour theme through onto some of the other plastic covers as you can see from the mock-up shot.

Should I paint them all, well that is what I am asking all of you?

Thank you for your comments.

I want to spray my engine cover in mirror chrome, spray paint spazstix or something but it'd take a while to dry

No offense guys, but why not put this effort into realizing a real performance increase? Paint parts with a can of krylon really isn't impressing anyone. Have the part recreated in hand layed carbon fiber? Sure, that's gonna get you some attention, and its alot better looking. Want a little bling under the hood? Keep it spotless, add some chrome or aluminum pieces here and there, some braided wire...I think that's more impressive than bright blue. Or, paint it to match the car. Sure, you got black...but that dull as nails engine cover would look so much better in a high gloss metallic black, or even a nice silver, than it does in blue.

Your idea reminds a lot of what I see at the 'budget boy' nights car shows, where they have taken whatever parts out of the interior that are relatively easy to remove, and sprayed them ghastly dayglow color, and then billed it as a 'customized interior'. Its pretty classless on a Cavalier, or a Civic, to say nothing of on a Benz.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Josh,

What did you mean by "don't paint the boxes on either side". Do you mean the 2 covers near the firewall or either side of the head cover? See attached.

Thanks

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. Color under the hood is best and most effective when it's used sparingly as an accent - not as a the main color.

painting under the hood or customizing the look under the hood should somehow "match" ur car, but i dunt think blue fits good, like i said, I think a Chrome, or what Outland said, something CUSTOM MADE, you can fix up ur stock parts, customize that, or better yet, fix up the intake pipes to CHROME or something, just something painted in black/white/chrome is good enough, especially when ur cars black, a blue matchin is ehhhhh

Ok, Advans,

I understand your point, but what does one do about the Blue Silicone coupler hoses, choices are Blue, Black or Red and you need the hose to give some flexability between the engine and the chassis. As for Chrome, it is a possibility as I have had Plastics chromed before, a little difficult depending on the type of plastic but it can be done.

Any one else have any comments?

Thanks

Yup, don't go whacko and paint the whole engine bay.

Brabus uses red. Carlsson uses blue. The House of Power, also blue. I think blue looks much better, if done correctly like this. My engine looks similar to this V8 kompressor engine with the powdercoated surge tanks.

But......I have CF/blue kevlar intake boxes. It's
