Cancelling an Order for a C Class

What happens to your deposit when you cancel your order?

They keep it!

Just kidding. Should be refunded to you in full.

isn't that the entire reason for leaving a deposit... so that they make money for starting an order even if you cancel it?

The purpose of the deposit is to make sure you are at least reasonably serious about buying. They WILL cash the $1000 check, but the WILL refund it when you cancel. Double check to make sure you get a full refund.

Didn't you get yours at Smythe? I wonder if they forgot, it's usually SOP for any MB dealer.

You get a full refund at my dealer. I double checked before I cut the check. The reason for the deposit is to weed out speculators; people that place orders at 5 dealers and cancel 4 of the orders at the last minute.

i asked my dealer what would happen if i diceded to cancel my oreder. Well they told me if my car was being built then they wouldn't refund my deposit. I put down a $1000 deposit first, which was fully refundable, but then they ask you for the second deposit just before the car goes in to production.(just to make sure you wan't the car)

So if you wan't your deposit, make sure your car is not in production yet. That's how my dealer was. But other dealers could differ.

I don't know if it varies from state to state, but in California, the deposit is ALWAYS fully refundable, period.

I'd imagine consumer laws are similar in the other states.

When I placed my order, I signed a piece of paper acknowledging the deposit. There were two options. On the first one, the deposit is refunded, no matter if it was the dealer or myself who decided not to go through with the transaction.

The other option was for the dealer to keep the money.

In my case, they checked off the first option.

This was in Miami, FL. Deposit was $500.

In another thread somebody mentioned that their dealer required a 2K (or 5K) non-refundable deposit if ordering a Benz without sunroof (due to the risk of not selling the car later).

ugh...

I had a horrible experience at Catena on more than one occassion. Im sorry to hear that you got stiffed. I think they are reputable enough, and unless you ordered something that they have trouble selling, you should get your money back. That was the worse dealer I ever almost did business with. Good luck.

I always thought it was an excellent dealership especially with my friend's buying experience.... it was first rate.
I never got the same kind of service though...
