Question How do you keep brake dust at bay?

Brake dust is a pain in the ***

Anyone got any good tips on coatings/treatments to put on alloys to help wash the dust off easily without scrubbing?

Guess I want the impossible!

I used Zaino on my rims and it helps to make removal easy, although it does not prevent the brake dust from building up. Someone on this board suggested a small California Duster (maybe the dash duster?) and using this to "dust" out the brake dust daily. Other than getting different brake pads, these are the only suggestions I have.

I use Porterfield brake pads, lasts all week with minimal dusting. You can get them directly from Porterfield or discounted from Geoff at SpeedToys.com.

I dunno about keeping it off, but 1) never use dust shields (they'll help your rotors warp) and 2) to clean, use P21 Gel cleaner.

Replacement brake pads

My GF has a 2000 ML430. She's been reading in the ML forums that some people (with MLs') are getting their brake pads replaced by the dealers (for free).

She's has called for a service appointment complaining about brake dust and mentioned that other people are getting replacements. The tech agreed and will be looking into it.

How come the MLs are getting replacements and the C's are not?

Unless MB is changing the brake pads to another brand that generates less dust, I don't see how getting new ones will do anything to lessen this problem.

For those that don't want to spend the $179 on Porterfields, get the Pagid pads, they are supposed to be low dust and are available for only $49.
