Okay this morning I drove the car form south coast to my parents house in cerritos no problem. Got in the car to drive to work and it made that noise when you put the key in I think twice. Tried to turn it but wont turn. Took the key out & got out of the and locked it. Unlocked it, got in put the key in it makes that noise but won't turn. Tried shaking it around alittle but still wont turn. I noticed that the steering wheel won't lock when I turn it with out the key also when I lock the car the lights dont't flash but it locks but when I unlock it it flashes. After 20 minutes gave up messing with it and ended up hitching a ride to work. I also had it serviced last friday and had the airbag recall done.

Has anyone had this happen? Any suggestions?

seems like its just needs to be reprogrammed... call dealer...

Thats what I thought at first but the steering wheel also does not lot when turning the wheel with out the key

lol hold your brake down and 'unlock' your steering wheel and then turn your key.

Okay called roadside assistance on saturday, no help at all. The guy check my battery and it is okay. I ended up getting it towed to House of Imports to check it out. Yesterday I called my SA and they are still trying to figure out why the key won't turn. My spare key was never programed so they are trying to program it first. They may have to order new keys or replace the EIS. I wish it was that simple. So I am still driving around in their loaner 06 C230 auto. At least their loaners are through enterprise so they are not all stickered out like Laguna's or Caliber's. Now I am starting to miss my black 6spd. The new C230 feels weird in auto it takes too long to respond to the gas pedal or maybe I am just use to my 6spd.

Okay got a call from my SA and they ended up replacing the EIS. They are keeping the car overnight to make sure everything else is okay.

how much did it cost to fix the eis? how long did it take? i have heard that sometimes the smart key can go bad and trying a spare will make it work ok. anyone else have any experience with this. my car won't start, but the lights work, and i can't get to my spare until after work. i had the mercedes tech drive out and he said it could be the eis, bad key, or battery. he checked the battery and that was good. i replaced the batteries in my smart key and still nothing. any help would be great. thanks.

The smart keys are pretty unreliable. I'm on number 4 at the moment. Folks, break em now, because they are like 167 bucks out of pocket if its not warranty.

I tried my spare key and it worked. Any reason why the key would fail? I replaced the batteries and the light still flashed. Did it loose programming?
