I'm trying to gather info on the scope of a problem, I am a diagnostic tech at an MB dealer and have been getting numerous complaints of intermitant raw fuel odor. This problem only appears to be from 203 sedans, but none of the owners have been able to find any sort of pattern in the occurance of the fault. There is no evidence of any sort of fault from a technical standpoint. So I figured I would try and gather some information from you guys. If anybody has this problem and has noticed any pattern in which it happens, your comments would be much appriciated. Thanks in advance.

 

I have a smell thats like burning plastic... 2004 C230 SSK

 

Regarding fuel odor; here is what I noticed on mine.

1) Startup in the am. Car idleling while I get my s*** together; i.e buckle up, radio/cd selection volume, etc.
2) Aero shield under car in connection with programmed recirc function of HVAC. Still allows % of outside air; not sure of %
3) Wind directon while doing the above. Sitting in garage changes the equation.
4) Disappears once I move forward at resonable speed.
