Remote hatch release on Coupe?

What's this I hear about some coupes having a hatch-popper button on the key?

What do I have to do to get a hatch release button, break my original 2-button keys? I NEED the remote hatch release button and I need it NOW!

Who's got it & how do I get it?

odd that MB would build that functionality into the central locking system on the coupe but not add a button to the key to use it.

Yes, it is odd. And that's why I assumed that it wasn't built in. I thought that a different latch mechanism would have to be used in order to get the hatch to "pop".

I'm going in for service-A soon and I'll tell the service adviser:" Sir, the hatch release button on my key doesn't work".

I've got the new key with the hatch release, but the hydrolics on the trunk don't allow the hatch to pop open more than an inch, you still have to open the hatch manually.

Yeah, is it covered under warranty, or is it a special-order item?

Does yours open the trunk all the way or just release the lock?

What if my current key "mysteriously" stops working? Is it replaced under warrenty or do I pay $130?

mine has also stopped working... mysteriously...

i wonder what would happen if the dealers suddenly got a bunch of keys that are broken? a recall? and then all the keys would be recalled and all the 2002 owners would benefit. so you see, i'm really just trying to help my fellow 2002 owners... yeah, you're welcome.

From what I was told, Mercedes would replace it under warranty if it stopped working and it was not due to negligence.

New Key

You do not have to have the dealership program you a new key. They can order you a new key to fit that vehicle. All 2002 Mercedes have seven keys preprogramed for the vehicle. The keys will have the numbers on the package 1-7, along with the other information about the auto.

Just an FYI, I just picked up my '03 Coupe expecting to see a 4-button key but instead got the old style 3-button w/o the hatch release.

Not a big deal to me, because you have to walk back there anyway (why else would you pop the hatch?), but still I hate not having all buttons possible

Any other's with '03's? Did you get the same? I re-read this post and saw only late '02's with the 4-button keys.

I have an '03 with 3 buttons on the remote. I asked at the dealership before and after purchase and was told no hatch release button existed. I also spoke to 2 people at MBUSA.

A hatch release button is great if you're carrying something heavy and just want to nudge the hatch open to put your cargo inside. I've had it with other hatchbacks/wagons and found it extremely useful.

If anyone had any more info on getting it on the '03, I would definitely pursue it.

What is the part number of the 4 button key?

If we have to order it - seems likely - and it is reasonable I'm all for it.
