Service - B light at 12k - IS this Normal
I have a C320 - 2004 4Matic i bought in May 2003.
The service B indicator said that it had to be done after 5200 miles.
I had got my Service A Light at 9k miles itself and had done it then in october 2004.
At present i have 12k miles when i the warning said "5200k miles away from Service B" I dont drive a lot and hence have less mileage on the car.
I suddenly got a warning sign on my dashboard that the "OlL Level is too low" while driving and since i was in the area where the dealership was at that time, i called the service center and went to them immediately.
The technician there said that there is too much oil(when the warning was for less oil) and vacummed some oil.
The warning went away after the same. So far so good. Please note, Service B was 5200 miles away.
Today when i started my car, it is saying that the Service B is 28 days away at 12 k miles.
Bewteen A and B service i have driven only 3K miles.
How is that possible ?????
Has anyone ever got this problem ?
Any response is appreciated.
Thanks,
cooldude.

mileage or time
My understanding is that the service intervals are based somewhat on your particular driving style, but in general the interval is an *earlier of* X months or Y miles. Not accounting for driving style, I think my intervals have been something like 10k miles or 14-16 months. I did not put a lot of miles in my last interval, so the time kicked in on me. It sounds like that's what happening to you: it's been 18 months since your last service!

mostolf got it pretty much right.
Service is done every 12 months (give or take) or approximately 12K miles (based on driving style- could me more, could be less). Services alter between service A and service B. B being more extensive and more costly. However, since you don't drive the vehicle a lot, I do not think a Service B is necessary, probably just a Service A would be sufficient.
Hope this helps.

It seems the computerized indication for Service B is a program written by some person/program that kicks in based on miles or duration whichever occurs first as indicated by you above.
The s/w program seems to have missed out to account for people like me who dont drive a lot or who have driven only 3 k in 2 yrs.
Anyway i am going to ignore the Service B indicator and will do my servicing after 16-18 K miles which seems most logical to me after reading your inputs.
Let me know if i am doing the right thing or otherwise.

It's best to ignore the free maintenance and then do it when you can pay for it. This way not only do you void your warranty you get to pay for what should have been free maintenance. How can you go wrong?
