A box on 4 wheels
Removing your OEM headrest is very simple, theres a switch on one of the sides click it and pull it out. As for the LCD headrest there are certain places that sell built in LCD screens in the headrest, just get it color matched. The hard part of the whole thing is the wiring, but it can be done by any local audio car shop.

By switch do you mean the lever that locks the height in position? My headrest are not power by the way, I should have mentioned that. I have tried that and it seems the rods that run through the seat have a retainer clip but I wanted to confirm before I pulled any harder. I can handle the wiring no problem its just the disassembly in uncharted waters for me I have problems with.

I haven't seen a later manual than the one for my car, but I think the index in the back is very good (compared to the table of contents in the beginning is which I feel is not as useful). It was right there under "Head restraints, front seats, removal and installation". It of course doesn't cover disassembly of the headrest itself. I'll post the picture from the manual if you need it.
Sounds like a nice project! Good luck with it.

Thanks for testing your headrest I will give it another try this weekend!
I also want to disassemble the plastic from the leather covered foam hopefully I will be able to see attachment points when I get it off.

on cars equipped with power headrests, you will have to remove the seatback first with 2 torx screws. Then you will see the 2 chrome headrest bars attaching to the headrest motor. You will have to use your hands (no tools) and unclip the plastic motor retainer on the end of the headrest post simply by bending the plastic of the motor slightly. Do that to each post and the entire headrest will come out.

When you say use a hook I assume there will be a release. Will the release be on the plastic side (rear) or on the leather/foam side? Thanks for all the help. I went out at lunch and tried again to remove the headrest with no luck. I believe the must have a clip on the bottom of the bar. I plan on removing the seat backs and see what I can find this weekend.

I wonder if there is a difference between 05 and 06 becuase my headrests will not come off. I am pretty sure they have to have a clip inside i am pulling very hard. I'll take the back panel off and see. Is there any trick to it besides the two torx screws at the bottom?
