I live in NY and I see just as many C Class competitors on the streets including:

BMW 3 series
Audi A4
Lexus IS
Acura TL
etc..

You're crazy if you think there are more C Classes than any of these cars on the streets. There might be more C classes than other Benz's but those other Brand cars are just as popular.

As for as the non-luxury models like Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Mazda 3, etc.. These types of cars are even more common.

Maybe you were only paying attention to the C classes instead of counting all the cars.

If you want to do an unscientific search of what cars are popular in certain areas just go to autotrader and search in specific zip codes and see how many are for sale for each car model.

ML Actually does not to badly for off road....just turn off the ESP first!!!! The old ML has a short wheel base, tight turning radius, narrow track - good qualities for off road. (Which also contribute to truck like ride) Unfortunately, it doesn't have locking Diffs.....but then again it is a drive and forget, so the wife can use it too!!!!

Jeep used to roll out a video at press events of a second Gen Jeep Grand Cherokee hammering it thru some deep mud....while pulling an ML. They dumped that in a hurry after the, um, uh, "merger of equals".

I will agree....no substitute for locking diffs. And in deep mud...once the disks get wet & muddy, ML is not the best vehicle. Get a G-Wagon!!!!

However, I like mine...fantastic on snow/ice, especially with ESP. My bosses Grand Cherokee has to turn on the 4WD, and once he does, for some reason it won't turn off. Other than that, and the fact that his 4 year old Jeep is a piece of sh*T that is falling apart......If my Boss had a choice again, he would pick the ML!!!!

Yea, Jeep is tha way to go!!!

Ive owned 3 Jeeps, all have been very reliable. My current Grand Cherokee, a93, just hit 218K this week...miles, not kilometers. Engine, Trans, difs, etc...all untouched. It has the Quadra Trac AWD system...its pretty good, although my wife's former 2000 GC had quadra drive, which is the slicked AWD setup Ive ever seen. Side to side and front to back...all mechanical. We sold it because we had another child, and a four person vehicle was no longer big enough...and the gas mileage was horrid with the V8. Other than that, I loved it.

even a base 230k isn't even at all comparable to any Honda. Honda's are just made cheaply and, while a C230k isn't exactly a nice Benz, a Honda cannot come near the quality of a C-class.

youre right. the honda wont be in the shop nearly as much as the c class.

Skipping over the first two, the Audi is essentially a VW with a different badge. Yeah, way to waste money. The Lexus is essentially a Toyota Camry, another waste of money. By waste of money, I sugguest buying the lesser named counterpart. Now, the Jag is a Ford Mondeo, but since you can't get one in the States, I guess it's a bit better. It is also AWD.

Leaving two choices, the MB and the BMW.

Or, I guess we could be the ultimate poser and drive an ML like yourself. Explain to me why you bought an ML. By far the worst MB ever created. First, it's made in the USA, second it has the worst service record of any Mercedes ever produced. Third, it can barely go off-road. Why didn't you just buy a Jeep for half the price?

Erik

ever heard of the IS 350? didnt think so. but you will hear it when it blows your cars doors off passing you. but you probably still wont see it. I love mine.

speed isn't everything because your IS 350 isn't the fastest car on the road for that price. The Subaru WRX STI and Mitsubishi Evo IX are much faster cars and they cost thousands less.

I didnt say it is. but its much faster than yours. provable anyday. and its better built and better looking. I used to own a benz but now I realize that they are overrated. hard to accept but its true.

haha. I would not even try. I believe IS 350 would reach 60 mph in 5.6 seconds. Mine would get there in about 7.0 secs, if i shift really well.

A fairer comparison would be an IS350 with a MB C350.

I just test drove the IS 350 RWD, that just blew me away. It's going to be an addition to the C 230. for the same price i'm getting much more then the C 230. for the same price i'm getting a 306 Hp engine with 277 ft lbs of tourque, keyless entry, 14 speakers, navi, heated ventilated seats, power seats, sun roof, auto swipers all for 39 thousand, get me a new benz with the same stuff for the same price, I'll be all over it. For now i'm getting a new lexus, needless to say the benz is still a wicked car, but mercedes will need to amp it up to keep up with other manufacturers.....my opinion....

Because it's a cheap entry-level Benz.

As of May 15th: 2006 C230 Black on Black
I love the Lexus. When I was buying a new car I drove the Lexus IS250 (since its closer to my price range), the new 3 series and the C230. The BMW and Lexus probably had the edge on speed and sporty, however my main concern is comfort (being 28 and having a down right shotty lower back calls for such concerns). The Benz was the most comfortable while still being sporty.

Everyone has different factors. Mine lead to a Benz...that thing is also one good looking ride.

if you are going to consider the IS 350, you might as well consider the Infiniti G35 and bmw 330i too. They are all within the same price range and have similar performance.

I've heard of it, it's not in the same league as a C-Class, nor the ES, which is why I used the ES as entry luxury. The IS is a joke, always was, always will be. Talk about a baby of a brand. It's a small step above a Corolla. But enjoy yours, ignore the Toyota symbols all over the car and keep staring at the Lexus logos to feel better about yourself

Sports inspiring my a$$, they don't even off the larger engine in stick. Blah.

Erik

Ok, lets be honest here. Lexus IS350 base is $38,324. Add the cheapest package w/ Nav (you have Command included above) and it comes out to be $44,429.

I didn't check the MSRP, jst the sticker price and promised i'd get a good deal so i guess i am, i concede...lol...
The guy said he'd give me the lex for 38,475

as for the original question the benz's are fun to drive and u can go pretty fast in them and not to mention the little 3 pointed star on the hood, or it's made in germany.....

btw the standard equipment offered by the company is much more then the benz, such as keyless go i don't have the entire list but was impressed by the car, im going to check out the C 350, any complaints on that car?
