Bringing Car in for Warranty Repairs
(1) knocking noise from engine that happens periodically while idling.
(2) cracking noise when backing up and turning right.
(3) odd problem with audio system as it periodically doesnt respond to any inputs.
My question is do i have to wait for an official Service (service B) before i bring the car in or can i just bring it in to have them check these things now. My dealer provides a loaner for regular service - will they provide a loaner for this non-schedules "service"?
(1) Does the engine knock show itself physically, or is it just a noise? Also, does the noise only persist when you start the car, or does it remain the entire time you drive it? I do know that the C240 doesn't have SC, so that can't be used as an excuse, but 4-cyl engines have a different sound than 6+ cyl, so I can't really say whether it'd be a problem. If the noise disappears after about 15 min or so, then it's just from the engine warming up. If the nosie persists throughout your drive, I'd worry. But either way, get it checked, some people actually got their fuel pump replaced.
(2) My suspicion is that the springs in the suspension are creaking from turning the wheels and getting a bit of lateral force. My mom's S500 makes that noise, but if it just creaks, but not CREAKS, it's more or less normal. It could be with the bushings on the sway bar that others mentioned (I'm not familiar with this problem), so you may want to get it checked.
(3) That's a very wierd problem. Never happened to me before, so you may want to get it checked. Also make sure it's a reproducible problem so you can show the technicians exactly what's going wrong.
And as for your last question: The MB dealer should provide you a loaner car if you take it in for any problems they can deal with, from flat tires to cracked engine block...
