HID Resistance Level

I tried searching this forum for a while now, but I am coming up with nothing.

I installed a HID kit on a 2003 C240, but it won't stay on clicks on and off. I looked at using resistors 2.2K 1/2 watt bought it from Radio Shack. It still doesn't work does anyone know the resistance level? Or how to trick the computer without taking it to the dealership?

why don't you just try to find a dealership that will set the XENON=PRESENT setting for you?

if you set the xenon to present, will the halogens still work at 55w?

I guess I'm going to try using resistors again tomorrow, if it doesn't go well I guess it's time to take it to the dealership.

Anyone know of which dealership might do it for FREE (I read some people getting this done for free) I don't want to pay a dealership 100+ for a 5 minute job on the Star machine

1) There are too many kits out there. You haven't even told which one you have?
2) If you want to know a possible dealer you will need to identify your location.

I'm not trying to scare you but there have been a few people that did the HID upgrade, that were in the same situation your in and ended up frying alot of fuses and wires because it wasn't set to present. I just installed mine last Monday and it kept flickering on and off so I just took it in on Thursday to get serviced and told them to set it to present.

Did the math:

equations:
I=V/R
P=E/T
I=P/V

I=?
P=20W
R=?
V=12V

I=P/V
20/12
I=1.66

R=V/I
12/1.66
R=7.23 Ohms

Maybe A 7ohm Resistor Will Work.

20W at 12V means you are running a little over 1.6 Amps of current. Be sure to get a resistor that will handle that current.

Phillips Hella HID kit H7

location: Irvine, CA

I checked the ohms with a machine when the bulb is not on it has .5ohms when the bulb is on it has 0 resistance.

Okay I think doing the resistor is not going to work.....Guess it's time to take it to the dealership or just scratch the idea of HID's.

You really have to understand what you are doing before you take a 1/2W resistor and put it on a 55W circuit or you will melt something, maybe your whole car. Get the Xenon present option turned on, most O.C. dealer will do it for an hour labor charge if they don't like you. Short out your wiring and it will cost you a lot more.
