Disabling the governor will not affect things like 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, etc. The only thing it affects is your top speed. The governor stops the car from going faster than 133 mph, but the car isn't redlining at that point. Removing the governor allows you to go faster than before, but it'll be restricted by redline. After that, it's the engine damage that may occur from running continually in top gear redline.

The governor is critical because the standard road tires 99% of the cars out there use have a safe speed rating of around 135-140 mph. After that, you risk a catastrophic blowout of a tire. If you want to run past that into the 150's, you'll need to get higher rated tires, like Z-rated tires that are designed to go upwards of 200 mph.

Also remember that Z-rated tires are broken down to even more groups (in the service description of the tire). My Z-rated Michelin Pilots have the Y speed rating, which allows speeds up to 186 mph I believe. This is, despite my top speed limiter.

Frank - the fear is relative to the road on which you are on. Mine was going straight for about four miles, so it was easy.
could be that i was on the old part of the freeway where there is only two lane.

89 MPH on I-80, unintentionally. The car was so smooth, I did not notice the speed.

We only took it to 130 once! (except we took it to the Nurburgring w/ 400 miles on it ) We kept it around 4000 in 6th most of the time (100-110 mph).

You Europeans with your speed-limit-free zones... that's why I can't wait to do a Euro Gumball 3000 run when time/money permits... Do 3000 miles while running 120+ MPH most of the time...

We got ours European Delivery, and visited the Ring. I still live in Atlanta (but wouldn't mind moving to Europe)

2000 MB C 200 K
I have been able to drive many times at max speed in my MB (even for long periods of time - say, 20 minutes) and i can say that the maximun readout is a lot depending on:

1) WINDS: once I drove about 20 km/h more than normal maximun with that help (C220 CDI, 5 speed manual, where 5th is an overdrive in its real meaning)

2) SMALL ROAD ANGLES: if you have the chance to drive in adecuate down-hill road for enough time you could find out that.

I own a C200K (6 sp. manual) and got usually readouts of 232 Km/h without winds and down-hill help. I can say that because i repeated the test in the same road backwards within a minimun period of time.

I think that 246 from Tarik in an auto version of C240 was helped a little with wind, (apart from speedo error).

Thanks
